33 “I feel like I’m chasing wisps,” Argolicus said, sitting in his study. “Instead of a plan, I’m grasping at bits of information trying to make them fit into a picture.” “The picture’s not forming?” Nikolaos said. “Not at all. It’s like tesserae are spread out in front of me, but there’s no design.” He looked at the floor, where mosaic pieces fit together in interwoven geometric figures. “There’s no pattern, just pieces.” “Ah, like the change of place, in Aristotle’s Categories. You need the pieces to change places.” “Yes, well, I don’t see it.” Argolicus sighed. “It helps to do something else. Something not related that gets your mind off trying. I would work in the garden.
