Tessara - Lime “Cadmus, I’m going to find you.” He hid in the alley between two large houses, listening to his sister, calling in a teasing voice. “Here I come,” she said. But he heard her walking away. In the alley, shaded from the summer sun by the tall buildings, refuse stood ready to be carted away. Cadmus crouched between two piles of rubble. He stepped back to press himself against a wall. “Ouch,” a voice cried out from the foot of a rubble pile. “Shh,” he said, whispering. “I’m hiding from my sister.” “I’m hiding too.” The voice belonged to a boy a little older than his sister. He was dressed in a plain tunic, dirty from cringing against the rubble. “Are you a slave?” he said, in the forthright way of children. He jutted out her smudged chin, “Never.” Before he could ask
