Not Ada the pushover

328 Words
I couldn't concentrate on my work for the entire day. The shocking revelation of almost ending up in a one-night stand with a complete stranger, who turned out to be my boss, haunted me. So much for unwinding; I swore to myself that I wouldn't take any more advice from Chioma, my best friend. She was the one who had planted the idea in my head, and she hadn't even bothered to call me. But I couldn't dwell on that now. As the day came to an end, I stepped out of the office. Before leaving, I thanked Adediwura at the front desk, who had been kind to me on this bewildering day. I couldn't wait to be home, away from the complexities of Checkers Enterprise. "Hello, you're the new secretary to the CEO, right?" a voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see a strikingly beautiful woman before me. Her appearance was immaculate, and the scent of her high-end perfume filled the air. I was momentarily mesmerized by her elegance. " Tega is that the limited edition of Chanel?" another voice chimed in from behind. The beautiful girl, whom I assumed was Tega, replied, "Ah Bola, off course , it is. It's one of my new collections." It's really beautiful," her friend responded and then cast a disgusted look in my direction. I was caught off guard by the exchange, and I couldn't help but feel their judgmental eyes on me. "Why are you talking to a cleaner?" Bola exclaimed, disdain in her voice. The insult stung, but I knew better than to engage with people like them. I had encountered their kind before and had developed a thick skin. Without waiting to clarify anything, I swiftly got into my humble car and drove off, leaving them to their snobbish discussion. I might be Ada the liar, but I refused to be Ada the pushover. Especially not by someone whose face looks like Amdioha and ogun playground.
