SELVARA’S POV
The first thing I noticed was the beeping.
My eyes flew open, and I found myself staring at a white ceiling. The smell of herbs and medicine filled my nose. For a moment, I couldn’t move. Then it sank in after looking around, I was in the pack hospital.
It seemed very weird to me because Omegas weren’t supposed to be here. We were treated in the sheds, with rags and boiled water, never here. If I was lying in this bed, then someone had seen. My wound had been exposed.
I shifted slightly. My leg was now wrapped in fresh bandages. It didn’t throb as badly anymore, but the weight of the clean cloth only reminded me that my secret was gone.
I listened carefully to the whispers that came just outside the room I was in. I heard two nurses' voices.
“Did you hear?” one said quietly. “It wasn’t the guards. It was Alpa Heir Zyros who brought her here.”
The other gasped. “Zyros? For an omega? That’s impossible.”
“I saw it,” the first insisted. “He carried her himself. Told us to treat her leg.”
“Why would he do that?”
“I don’t know. But if Queen Celine finds out…” Their voices trailed off as they moved down the hall.
I lay still, my heart racing. Zyros? He… he was the reason I was here? My chest squeezed tight, and I didn’t know if it was fear or something else. I thought he wanted to stay away.
The curtain pulled back. A healer came in. She checked the bandage without looking me in the eye.
“You’re awake. Good.” She said as she tightened the cloth once more.
“It’s deep. Don’t strain it. You’re lucky it didn’t rot.” she added almost immediately still with her eyes on my leg. I swallowed hard but stayed quiet.
"You’ll go back to your quarters soon,” she said, and left.
Not too long after she left, two guards from the pack came to escort me to my quarters. When I was taken back, Queen Celine was already waiting. She folded her arms, rolling her eyes at me. From the look of things, I definitely knew I was in trouble.
“Well,” she said softly. “Would you like to tell me how an Omega ended up in my hospital?” I went silent for a while.
"Should I open that mouth of yours with a slap?" She said as loud as she could.
My throat went dry. “I… I went out the pack because I was feeling a little unwell, on my way back, I got caught in a trap.”
Her smile widened. “Outside. Of course. You will never learn. You don't belong anywhere!” She stepped closer, gaze flicking to my leg. “You’ll be punished, but not yet. First, you’ll heal. Then we’ll see.” Her hand brushed my chin, and with that, she went out, closing the door behind her.
Back in the quarters, the whispers had already spread. The Omegas stared at me, some wide-eyed, some smirking. They would hate me more if things like this kept happening.
"He actually went to the hospital?” one muttered.
"I can remember the last time I was down with fever, I didn't get the chance either, even though I was burning hot as hell," the Omega added.
“She must’ve begged for it,” another sneered.
"Still..." Her voice trailed off as she sighted me, dragging the other in her arms and heading for their quarters.
I ignored them, went back to my room and locked the door. My leg ached, but my chest hurt worse. If Zyros had truly brought me there, then why? And why was he still so cold?
By evening, I got my answer.
My door creaked open, and I felt it before I even looked. It was Zyros, of course my wolf informed me with her movements, and I felt the slight pull.
He stood in the hallway, probably scared of coming too close, his eyes locked on me. My breath caught, but he didn't look away. We stared at each other. My wolf stirred instantly, the pull snapping through me like fire under my skin.
He stepped closer, boots echoing against the floor. He stopped a few feet away.
“You should have spoken up,” he said finally. His voice was calm, but hard.
I lowered my eyes. “It was nothing.”
“Nothing?” His tone sharpened. “You bled through the halls. You call that nothing?”
Not like it's your business after all, why do you care? I'm just a useless Omega who gets used at will. I really wanted to scream that out loud, but any reckless action could cost me more punishments, so I kept mute.
I clenched my hands together, saying nothing.
He moved closer, I could now feel his breath over me. “Don’t make this mistake again. Next time, no one will cover for you.”
I flinched, not at his words, but at how close he was. His scent and his presence. The pull between us was rising so strong I couldn’t breathe right.
I tried to step back, but the wall stopped me. His eyes narrowed, catching the change in me. Then his hand slammed against the wall by my head. I could hear the sound in my ears.
My whole body jumped.
“Tell me you don’t feel this,” Zyros said, his voice low and rough. His face was inches from mine now. “Say it, and I’ll walk away.”
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. My lips trembled, my throat closed. I couldn’t lie. Not when the bond was tearing through me, making my wolf howl inside. Silence stretched between us. His eyes burned into mine, waiting.
And I, yet again, couldn't say anything.
