9.) Cousins

I watch as two figures get out of the car and I stand and raise my hands above my head and await the deep voices telling me to freeze. The figures look slimmer than I thought they would be and one of the people come running toward me in the dark and I tense up. "Knucklehead I've missed you!" A girl screams and I instantly relax and lower my arms, hugging her back in joy. I pick her up and spin her as I place a kiss on her cheek. "Clarina! My favorite cousin. When did you get in. Does Uncle Max know you're in town?" I gush out pulling away and she smiles. "I just left the porn palace. I wanted to come see you before I got settled in." She says and the other person walks up and I notice it's a girl. "Um, well don't just stand there. Come in, come in, we must catch up." I say and walk in my door and go close the door to the back porch. "Sit on the couch while I get us something to drink!" I yell out and grab them both waters as I contemplate what I want myself. I grab a fifth of crown and a shot glass and bring it into the living room. Clarina raises her eyebrows at me as I set down the bottle with only a single shot glass and the other girl smiles. "So how long have you been in town?" I ask and she takes a sip of her water. "I officially got moved in yesterday. I was going to come by earlier but-" I interrupt her as I pour myself a shot.  "Wait, you've moved into town?" I ask dumbfounded. "Yes, I moved back after I graduated because I got an offer I couldn't resist at the hospital and that means I can be back close to mom an-" I interrupt yet again and choke on my shot a bit. "Wait, you graduated. Jesus, your mom hasn't told me any of this. I'll admit I wondered why you weren't here for the funeral last year. You and mom always loved to cook together." I say and she sighs and looks down. She looks as though she felt guilty and I frown a bit at this. The other girl places a hand on her shoulder. "Yeah, I hate I missed the funeral, it was really terrible but I just couldn't leave due to exams." She says almost with a heart full of sorrow. "It's okay, it hurt you I know. Well, gosh. What did you go to school for? I mean I haven't seen you since we were what 17?" I ask as I pour another shot once I feel Ivy sneak back into my train of thought. "I am a brain surgeon. I'm doing the remaining years of my clinicals here and I'm going to get my residency." My eyes widen and I lean forward a bit, waiting for her to start laughing. But it never came. "All I really understood was that you're a brain surgeon and I'm in complete awe." I admit and she blushes. "Thank you, now I'm wondering where is this girl Ivy my mom told me about?" I look down at the shot and shake my head as I grab the whole bottle and take a swig. I cough for a moment and lick my lips while forming an answer. "We are on a break. But I'm going to get her back. I'm going to fix her even if I have to pick up every broken piece  by hand and glue them all back together." I say and I mean it with every fiber of my being. She made me better. She made me who I wanted to be. She made me feel like she was what I was waiting for all my life. "Aww, that's adorable." The girl beside Clarina says, holding a hand over her heart with a look of adoration. "I'm sorry, but who are you?" I ask in the most non-rude way possible and Clarina smiles and grabs her hand. "This is my girlfriend Alexis." I snort on a swig of my drink when she says this and a bit comes out of my nose. She had to be joking. "Girlfriend... no way. You?" I ask, knowing that she had to be joking and she nods. "Yes, boy crazy Clarina is actually girl crazy." I just look at her in awe as I rest a hand on my knee and my elbow supporting my face. "I would have never, and I mean never called that one. Um, hi. I am Wyatt." I say, sitting straighter and giving her a wide smile. She was equally as pretty as my cousin. She had blonde hair like her and big doe eyes that sparkled a deep emerald color. "Finally, my chance to talk. Hey man, are you really a freaking porn star?"  She says in a voice that sounded almost as if she was losing her voice and I chuckle at her way of getting to the point. Clarina's eyes widen and she looks at her partner as if saying did you really just. "Umm, yes. Believe it or not it was actually my ideal profession. I like the idea of pleasing people and it was just a perfect match for me." She nods her head and smiles, crossing her legs. "Wow, that was a lot more deep than what I thought you would have said." She admits with a look of agreeance being shot towards me. "And what did you expect me to say?" I ask with tone of mock hurt. She shrugs a bit and talks with her hands for a moment as she looks for the words. "Something along the lines of being a s*x god and-" Clarina shakes her head and covers Alexis's mouth. "Ew, please stop. Um, I need a subject change. How is Venus?" I smile at this because Venus is one of my favorite things to talk about along Ivy. "She's amazing. I've never seen such a strong and determined girl, well besides mom. She is doing good in school, making friends, being the angel that she is." I say with a whole heart because mom was such a strong woman, I didn't know how she did it. She was a mom to anyone she met really. Always so kind and caring. "Got that right, she was so ballsy, always wanting to punch first, ask questions later." Clarina says with a chuckle. "Yeah, that sure was mom. Not to be weird but Ivy reminds me of mom in a way. Kinda, selfless, a true fighter." I say with admiration and yet again, take a swig of drink. "Then I know I'm going to like her." She admits and a moment falls between us as I look off into the distance for a second thinking about how simple life used to be. "Now if you don't mind me asking, Wyatt what is on your mind. I know we don't know each other but I knew something was up as soon as I seen you drinking and it only just now getting dark out." She says and I c**k a brow at her and set the bottle down as I cross my arms to give into her banter. "How bold of you to ask... but my problems aren't yours." I say, giving her a small smile as I realize I shouldn't drink to try and forget what happened tonight. Drinking wouldn't erase the fact that she is so off the edge. "Alexis is a psychiatrist, she worked at the women's prison up in Eden. Now she works at the child hospital just outside of town." I raise my eyes at this information as I think of where I had heard the name Eden before and chuckle. "Pretty drastic change don't you think?" I ask and she shakes her, shrugging. "Not as much as you think. Anytime you want to talk just let me know." She says and I think about it for a moment. "Um... I might take you up on that. I'm down to try new things. But, something has been itching in my mind. Did you say that the prison was in Eden?" I ask and she nods. "Yeah, do you know Eden?" She asks me and I shrug for a moment as I think. Is that where Ivy went to jail? Tatyana would know. I'd have to get in touch with her at some point and find out. "Ivy, I think she went to jail there." I say, shrugging it off and Clarina's eyes widen drastically. "Woah! You're hung up on ex-convict?" She says with surprise in her voice and I frown and he my lip twitches.  "She was charged for attempted murder on her r****t, so I think we can all look over that." A look of anger crosses her face and she nods. But Alexis starts to speak as she keeps on thinking. "Would her last name be Lynn by chance?" I smile at this and scoot the edge of my seat, wanting to know more. "Yes, did you know her?" I ask and she simply nods. "Yes, I did.... how is she?" I frown and look down at my hands as I think about what I discovered today. Track marks. Bruises on her ass along with gashes. She smelt like she had been drinking. Her skin was pale. She had lost weight, but she looked unhealthy. Weight loss wasn't for everyone that was clear to see, especially if you do it wrong. "Not in the best of places to be honest with you. She had a bit of a mental break about a year ago when we broke up- actually. Let's not talk about it. I have work in the morning and  I have a couple more shots that need to be downed before I go on with the night." I say looking down and sighing as I run a hand through my hair. "That's really sad." Clarina says and I nod. "Yeah, it is. I miss her deeply." I admit and Clarina shakes her head and leans over, nudging my shoulder. "Not her, you!" I furrow my brows in confusion at this. "What?" I ask and she explains very quickly. "You are Wyatt Princeton. Girls used to fall at your feet once you got some meat on you. You are one of the kindest, most considerate, non-judgmental guys I know. You need to march you happy ass to her, and tell her how you feel." I shake my head and grasp the bottle of alcohol. "I've tried and-" she holds up her hand, dismissing me, while snatching the bottle out of my hand with the other. "If at first, you don't succeed, try try again." She says as if it's the simplest thing in the world. As if I hadn't tried. "She needs to calm down tonight because we got into a huge fight at the party I threw." I say and she smiles, coming over and giving me a hug. "All in due time, but did you say you have to work in the morning? Are you going to leave all of this food out and decorations up?" She says looking around with her head on my shoulder. I nod and roll my eyes, trying to hide my amusement with her noticing and looking a bit uncomfortable. "Oh no, OCD Clarina is having a spell. I was going to stay up and get it all cleaned. I swear." I say holding up a pinky and she rolls her eyes, looking around. Alexis stands up and sighs.  "Well, then I guess we should let you go before she tries and cleans for you." Alexis says, reaching for Clarina's hand and she frowns. "Oh no really?" She asks with dismay and hugs me, as Alexis continues. "Yes, we need to get some more unpacking done and do some painting tonight anyways. We just got off of work and Clarina went on a whim to come by." She says and I nod, giving my cousin a caring kiss to the forehead. "Well it sure was good seeing you and I am very glad to have met you Alexis. I hope we can meet again soon." I say, standing up and giving her a hug. She leans in close and tightens her grip around me. "Same to you.... and would you give Ivy my number." She whispers to me, slipping a piece of paper in my hand and I look at her hesitantly. Ivy has a very hard time dealing with her past, maybe bringing that back into her life wouldn't be the best idea. "Ummm-" I say and she gives me a pleading look, while grabbing my hand. "Trust me, it's for the best. Just please." She begs and I sigh, looking down. "Okay. I will." We direct our attention to Clarina again and smile. "Have a good night. Before you both go can I get your number first Clarina?" She nods and hands me a business card and I smile down at the thick card between my fingers. Wow, she's really making something for her life.
