“W-what was that you said? Again?” Eloise, now confused and terrified asked.
“Yes. This is always your reaction when you first see me again, especially in my true form,” He answered making her feel more confused.
“I’m sorry, sir. I can’t seem to understand all of this now.”
“This is my true form, Eloise. I have a long huge horn on top of my head, my wings black as a crow’s, and the black ink that’s all over my body. In your previous life, you knew me and I knew you. Even before that life, we were also together. We always were. We were born in almost the same year when we first met and until then, I’ve always been the only one who stayed while you die,” He explained.
“S-so, what are you?” She asked.
“I’m a demon, Eloise. Come here,” He said.
Eloise obeyed with a still confused mind, he took her hand and sat her on his lap.
“So you mean, I died? How did we even know each other?”
“Oh, my sweet, Eloise. It’s always been really tiring to explain this to you again and again.”
“I don’t remember my past lives so of course, you have to explain it to me,” She said, finally feeling frustrated with him.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad,” He softly said as he caresses her face.
“I’m not mad, I’m just frustrated and confused,” She said, feeling calmer now.
“You’re not scared?”
“No, not anymore. As I can see, you’re not that dangerous and I think you would never hurt me.”
“That’s great,” He said, relieved that she was slightly back to her old self.
“Now, can you please explain everything?”
“Ok,” He said. “On your first life, we fell in love with each other. We were inseparable and it was like nothing could break us apart but death. Not until you found my true form. You saw me and you ran away. I was broken, you were too. I was really scared that you’d leave me when you see the true me so I didn’t tell you at first. But I was surprised when you came back. I thought you would just forget me and marry some human but you came back,” A tear fell down his eyes and Eloise immediately wiped it for him.
“I must have been so in love with you then,” She joked.
“You were. You accepted me and we lived together until your very last breath. I waited years for you to come back. I was always searching and when I found you, I just watched you from afar. I didn’t think it was important for me to be in your life anymore. You gave me your first and I would never make you go through the pain again for the second time. But you found me. You came for me again, pestered me, and said you loved me. When I showed you my true form, you didn’t back down, instead, you hugged me. I couldn’t resist my love for you so I gave in. Since then, you always come to me and I always watch you. I would always be where you were, especially when you’re born again. It gave me the hope and will to continue my life here on Earth. Even when if it means getting to watch you die over and over again.”
“Isn’t it tiring for you to watch me die over and over again?”
He stilled when he heard her ask that.
“Wow. This is the first time you asked me that,” He said. “Well, I never really thought about it because I know you’ll be reborn again. I know you’ll come back for me but… now that you asked me that, it is a bit tiring isn’t it?” He realized.
Watching her die over and over again pains him more than it pains her but watching her come to life again, was precious. It was euphoria. It means that she’s here again, ready to love him and be with him.
“What if a time comes that I wouldn’t approach you anymore?” Eloise sadly asked.
“That’s never going to happen, love. I’m crazy for you and I would never break my promise to you,” He said.
“What promise?”
“That I would find you always and be with you. You made me promise that in your third life. If you don’t approach me first, then I should approach you and make you love me. I also showed you my true form now because you made me promise that too, on your fourth life.” He lovingly said.
Love and happiness were visible in his eyes. Although it was pitch black, she could still see it.
“Can you make me remember my past life?” Eloise asked.
“You never requested that to me before, but yeah. I could only in one condition though,” He agreed.
“What is it?”
“I could only make you remember little by little. I don’t want to pressure your pretty head by bringing your memories all together.”
“That’s alright,” She said. She leaned over his shoulder and asked, ‘How do you always know that it’s me?”
“Your heart. I know your heart. Even though you were born in different bodies all the time, your heart never changed. It was pure, and so you.” He said and kissed her temple.
“We never had kids?” She asked.
“Nope. I didn’t think you could handle a demon on your tummy so no. we never really talked about it.”
“But, couldn’t you also just make me a demon?”
“Well, you never wanted to be a demon and I didn’t want you to enter my world. It’s too chaotic for you,” He explained.
“What if I want to be a demon so that we could finally live together for eternity?”
“That could be arranged but you should think about it first. We don’t have to rush. You still have a lot of time.”
She smiled sweetly and said, “Okay. I trust you.”
“I love you,” He suddenly said.
“I might still not remember but my heart surely does. I love you too,” She sincerely said.
Her brain doesn’t know it yet but her heart does. As she stares into his eyes, she knew she loved the man. It was a different feeling again but this time; she knew she felt it before. In her past lives.
They spent the whole day together, just talking and not doing any work. She was surprised that he could do that because CEOs are usually busy and hard working. Sometimes, too focused on their work that they don’t have time for anyone else.
When the end of the day came and they had to go home, Leon brought her with him to his car.
“I assume you know where I live?” Eloise asked when they got inside.
Leon put the seatbelt on for her before he did his, “Of course, in my home.”
