“This is a freaking mansion, not a home,” Eloise said as she stared at the mansion in front of her.
She never imagined that in her whole life, she would get into one. But I guess, jokes on her because she had been living here since God knows when.
“This is home for us, Eloise. You called this home, I called this home, we both called this home ever since we had this built.”
“When was this built?” She asked out of curiosity.
“Fifth life. Around 1985,” He answered.
“Is this my sixth life then?” She asked.
“It is.”
“I can’t believe this is my sixth life,” She muttered.
Eloise believed that at some point people were reincarnated but still, knowing that it was true was a shock to her. She only thought it happens in the movies or in books but, here she was.
They entered the big doors and Eloise gaped on the scene before her. It was a beautiful home. The designer did well because everything looks so elegant at the same time so modern. If she was an architect, she would have never thought of this one. It was too beautiful to exist.
“Who designed this house?” Eloise said as she looks around.
“You,” Leon answered as he stares at her.
Eloise looked at him with a surprised look.
“Me?”
Eloise was stunned. She didn’t expect that she could do something like this in her past life. It was really unbelievable.
“Yes, you were a very talented architect in your past life,” He said.
“Wow. This is really a work of art.”
Leon toured her around the house and it was just majestic. She can’t explain the place in words because there really isn’t a word enough to describe it.
When they reached the bedroom that she would be staying in Eloise couldn’t help but ask, “Did we sleep in the same room before?”
“Of course. If you feel uncomfortable, I could stay at one of the guestrooms.”
Eloise shook her head. “No, that’s fine. This is what we used to do before anyway.”
Leon smiled at her and took her hand. “Do you want to take a bath first?” He asked.
Eloise nodded so he showed her the clothes that she left in her past life. Everything was there and clean. It was like it was waiting for her to return. She picked out some clothes and proceeded to go into the bathroom to take a bath. Surprisingly, the clothes fitted her well as if it was tailored for her. When she was done, she went down and saw Leon cooking food.
“You can cook?” She asked him when she got nearer.
“Yes. You taught me how to cook on your first and second life,” He answered as he plates the food.
“Let me guess. I was either a good cook, someone who knows how to be independent, or a chef.”
“Bingo. On your second life you were a chef and on your first, actually no, in every single one of your life, you were independent.”
He placed the plates on the table and Eloise naturally sat down on one of the chairs.
“I guess I still am. Anyway, does a demon like you eat human foods too?” She asked while he was putting food on her plate.
“I got used to it but us demons really don’t have to eat. We don’t get hungry but I can eat food.”
“You know, I read a book back then that demons eat the soul of humans. Another one said that they feast on human flesh and blood,” She said as she intently watches for his reaction.
He just laughed and said, “A demon doesn’t really do that but a demon can steal one’s soul. None of us really gets hungry but when you have to pretend to be a human, you just get used to eating food.”
“So, does that mean that you could eat practically everything? Like can you eat a lot? With no limitations? If you don’t get hungry that means you don’t get full too, right?”
He laughed again and stared at her with an amused glint in his eyes. “Well, aren’t you a curious one? You were never this curious in your previous lives.” He said. “But to answer your question, yes. I don’t get hungry so I don’t get full too. However, there is a limitation because for sure, my jaw and stomach may not take all the food, in my human form that is.”
“But in demon form, you can? There isn’t a limitation?”
“Why are you even asking these things?” He asked, still finding her curiosity amusing.
“I want to know you better and knowing your demon side could help me decide whether or not I want to be turned into a demon,” She said after swallowing her food.
“Hmm... I never tried it before in my demon form since I only eat in my human form. But in the future, if you want, we can try it.” He said and Eloise just smiled and nodded at him.
They continued eating while talking to each other just like they did before. After they finished eating, they both went up to their room without washing the dishes.
“So, who does the house chores?” Eloise asked as they walk up the stairs, hand in hand.
“I have some demons to take care of it. They show up when no one is here in the house.”
“That’s cool. Have I met them before?”
“Nope. They don’t really show up around people.”
“So, when I’m a demon, they will?”
“Maybe,” He said, teasing her.
They went inside the room and Eloise laid down on the bed while Leon took a bath. He only took a while and after he did, he laid right beside her.
“I bet we were sweet back then,” Eloise said after a moment of silence.
“We were,” Leon said and hugged her. “Are you alright or is this too fast for you?” He asked her.
“This is fine. This way, I’m not alone anymore and I have someone to rely on. Besides, I’m gonna be thrown out of my apartment sooner or later so… you came at the right time,” She said as she looks at him.
She hugged him too and laid her head on his chest.
“I’m relieved then.”
“Did you know?” She asked him as she listens to his heartbeat.
“What?”
“That I was desperate to find somewhere to live or that I was really desperate for a job because I was going to be thrown out of my apartment and become homeless?”
“Yeah. That’s why I put up a job opening. I was worried you wouldn’t try out especially because of the rumors spreading about my assistants.”
“Were you really horrible to them?” Eloise asked as she looks at him dead in the eyes like she wasn’t talking to a demon.
“Yes. They were trying to see what I look like and when I show them my human form, they’d be all desperate and I don’t like that. You may not like it,” He explained to her.
“So, you’re the loyal type, huh?” She teased him.
“You know I am, love. I always was. If you didn’t come to me first on your second life, I would have been single and would just be watching you from afar.”
“I love you,” Eloise suddenly said.
“I love you too,” Leon said and kissed her cheeks.
They slept with a contented smile on their face and dreamt about happy things.
