“While I was cleaning the table a while ago, I heard a customer said that Leon Cress liked to get his coffee at this very café. I know I never told you who Eliot’s father is and why he’s not here so I will now tell you. Leon Austin Cress is the biological father of Eliot. I don’t know if you’ve seen the news years before that Leon Cress finally married someone,” Eloise started.
“Wait. I think I heard about it before. Leon Cress is the mysterious CEO, right? The one that only revealed his true identity years after being successful?” Kaye asked.
“Yes, that’s him,” Eloise answered.
Kaye’s eyes grew big when she realized something.
“You were the one that he married,” She said, her eyes wide.
“Yes. We were in love back then. He married me, took care of me, and loved me as I’ve never been loved before. Everything was in place. Sure, he is not a perfect person, he has his flaws and I completely accept it but, everything was perfect for me. Not until I learned the truth. I knew it was too good to be true. I knew that being with him was too good to be true. He was a very vile man. He killed my parents. He was obsessed with me to the point that he doesn’t want anyone to meddle with our relationship. He was obsessed to the point that he only wants me to love him and no one else. He was obsessed to the point that he threw someone in jail just because they badmouthed me. He was obsessed to the point that he tortured someone to death just because she betrayed me,” Eloise said.
Tears were flowing down her cheeks and she was sobbing hard. Jessica was shocked while Kaye went up to comfort her.
“He was the worst. I tried to accept it at first. I tried to live with it. I tried to act normal with him. But, when I found out that I was pregnant with his child, I know he wouldn’t accept it. I know that he would do everything to get rid of it. I love Eliot so much to lose him,” Eloise said in between her sobbing.
She looked at Eliot who was intently listening to her. Eliot took a step forward and hugged his mom. He couldn’t bear to see her crying. He never heard anything about his dad until now. He longed for answers then but now, he loathed his father. Her mother is now in so much pain and he knew that back then, it hurt a lot more.
He would never forgive his father.
“How do you know that he would get rid of it? He’s still his son. I’m sure, he’ll try to love him,” Kaye tried to tell her but Eloise shook her head.
“I know that he will,” Eloise answered, her voice was too sure for them to doubt.
But then again, he is still his father.
“How sure are you?” Jessica asked when everything finally sank into her.
“Very sure.”
Why? Because it already happened before.
Eloise couldn’t tell them that, of course. They would never believe her if she tells them about their past. They’d be scared to death and the worst-case scenario would be either they kill themselves or move far away from them. Anyone who’s a coward would. I mean, that man killed many people, Eloise herself doesn’t even know how many.
“Wait, he killed someone… just because she betrayed you?” Jessica asked as if she couldn’t get that thought out of her head.
“Yes. A friend, I mean a girl who I thought to be my friend did. She befriended me but stabbed me in the back. She acted as if she was a good friend but actually was not. She would go around the office spreading bad things about me. She even tried to seduce Leon from me. If only Leon didn’t notice that, she would still be here. She was crazy. Just like Leon.”
They grew silent for a few more minutes. Eliot was just sitting on her lap while his arms are around her neck and his face buried in her shoulder.
He was still listening to what his mother was telling them all but Eliot knew there was something else she couldn’t tell them.
“What do we do now?” Jessica asked after a moment of silence.
“I don’t know. I’m still thinking about everything else. Leon has amnesia, he wouldn’t ever remember us, a doctor explained that to me. So, I don’t know what happened. Why he was suddenly here.”
“Maybe he just really likes my coffee?” Jessica asked.
“Yeah, maybe it’s just that. Let’s not overthink things,” Kaye added.
Eloise shook her head. “No, Leon only likes one coffee and it’s the coffee that I make for him. The coffee that we sell from here is not even close to my coffee, no offense meant Jess.”
“Maybe since he forgot about you guys, he also forgot about what he likes? Or maybe his taste is a little bit different now?” Pierce said.
“Maybe,” Eloise said.
Her head was still in turmoil. She can’t think properly. Her insides were still panicking but she’s doing everything to appear unshaken. She doesn’t want Eliot to be concerned or worse, scared.
“Let’s think this through first. Get a good night's sleep and then maybe tomorrow everyone will get a clear head. Let’s go, I’ll drive you home first,” Pierce said so Eloise got up with Eliot still in her arms.
“Wait, what about you, Kaye and Jessica?” Eloise asked them before going out.
“Go, my brother will take care of you. Don’t worry about us, my fiancé will pick me up and then we’ll drive Kaye back to her place,” Jessica said so Eloise nodded her head and went out.
They went inside Pierce’s car again and he drove them to their place.
“Thank you, Pierce. Please be safe,” Eloise said before getting out.
She unlocked their door before going in and she made sure that the door is locked again before putting Eliot on his bed.
“Mom, I know that you didn’t tell them all everything. Or that you covered things up because you don’t want them to know that we’re demons,” Eliot said.
Eloise sat on his bed and caress his head.
“I did. But before I tell you everything, you should get some sleep first. I’ll be sleeping here right beside you,” Eloise said and laid next to him.
Eliot immediately hugged her and went to sleep.
Eloise felt her phone vibrate and saw Pierce texted her.
Pierce Warren Hart:
Don’t worry too much, Eloise. I’ll be here to protect you. I now understand why you don’t want to give me a chance but I’m not scared. He can come for me and I would still fight for you. Good night, my angel.
