Juniper stumbled out of the room, her chest heaving with emotion. The ornate hall outside felt cavernous and cold, its high ceilings and gilded fixtures doing nothing to quell the storm raging inside her. Her footsteps echoed, but she barely registered them, her mind spinning with Kael's confession. She didn’t notice Rylen at first, leaning casually against the far wall. He straightened when he saw her, his expression quickly shifting from neutral to concerned as he caught sight of her tear-streaked face and trembling frame.
