Last Day of Senior Year Pt. 2

557 Words
I make my way to the gym for second period. This class is my favorite. Im not athletic by any means, and the coach always lets me go to the library until this period is over. As I walk into the gym, the coach is greeting everyone and asking them to take a seat on the bleachers and wait for further instructions. I look at the floor as I walk by her, hoping she will redirect me to the library.       "Ms. Duchannes?"      "Yes, coach," I reply as I slowly lift my eyes to look at her. It's not until I am looking at her that I realize she has this guilt stricken look on her face.       "I'm afraid you'll have to participate today, as we will be completing the end of the year exam."      I know what that means. The end of the year exam for gym class is running 1.5 miles. The coach records our time from start to finish. As long as you finish running 1.5 miles before the bell rings, you pass. I don't mind running as it is part of my training at home, but I don't enjoy running along with everyone in class. At home it's different. They aren't just a part of the pack,  they are my family. And soon, my father will pass the title to me, and I'll officially be Alpha Ridley Duchannes of the Blood Moon Pack. That is, of course, if I don't find my mate before then.       Im not very fond of socializing with anyone outside of the pack, if you can't already tell. Im not antisocial, I just choose to stick to my people, my wolves. I trust them. And with so many wolves going rogue, it's difficult to trust anyone else. The rogues are getting better at blending in every day, and I just think it's better to be safe than sorry.       I head towards the girls locker room to get changed and stretch before we start. Secretly, I'm looking forward to running a mile and a half. It's a good exercise to help clear your mind and stay focused. I've only got one more exam after this. First was calculus, now gym, and next is advanced English. I took chemistry, advanced world history, and the anatomy exams yesterday. But English had always been my best subject.       Now that we've stretched, it's time to start running. As I steady my running pace, I focus on breathing evenly and keeping myself calm. When a wolf's heartrate rises, they're adrenaline levels rise and most of us cant stop ourselves from shifting. Since im an alpha's daughter, my self control is better than the others, but it's still a risk. My wolf's name is Leena. She stands 7 foot tall from head to paw on all fours, her fur is white as snow and she has ice blue eyes. She's very intimidating to other wolves who aren't within an alpha bloodline.      The average wolf stands 4-5 foot tall from head to toe on all fours, so Leena is significantly bigger than an average wolf. And when she unexpectedly makes her appearance, most wolves go immediately into defense mode and out usually ends badly when that happens. So it's definitely a relief when I get her under control.
