Sindbad tended the crypt’s alarm clock, given to him by the old sexton as a present, to wake him in a hundred years’ time. This clock was much like the usual alarm clock, but constructed to be wound up by ghosts with their breath-like whoosh when they visited the crypt or had business with other ghosts in the graveyard. Sindbad thought that if he decided when he should resurrect next time and he himself could tend the ghosts’ alarum, he would not be at the mercy of others and he would be master of time.
