CHAPTER 1: TWO DIFFERENT WORLDS KOLKATA, DUM DUM INDIA "Jonaki, will you stop running and complete your homework? Or do you want a red mark on your mark sheet this year?" "Mom, did you see the new gadget? " "What gadget?" She spoke turning the gas valve to its fullest while the food was still on the top of it. "The one which does all the homework on its own and we don't need to do anyeething! "The five year old elaborated. And her mother turned around to look at her, "What are you talking about?" her daughter and her wild imaginations, Alisha shook her head. "There's no such gadget and even if there had been one, I would NEVER give it to you!" "But I saw it on the Tv." The little minikin pouted and Alisha could not help herself as her heart thwarted at the sight. "Baby, go do your homework and then we will have dinner, alright?" And the five year old girl ran back to her bedroom before flashing a smile to her mother, her green eyes twinkled along and suddenly Alisha was reminded of another man with those same set of familiar olive green eyes. Something she was closely acquainted with, before she left it all behind on a dark lonely night. Flashback "Alisha, it's for your own good! Try to understand. " Alisha hated it, so much so that she wished her ears to dry and peel off from the sides of her head and she wouldn't need to hear this ongoing bullshit any longer. She just can't come to the terms to believe that her father would do this. Picking up the topic of marriage at every opportunity and rubbing it raw edges on her nerves, pricking them all the time. She knew that most of- or one could say every second marriage in India is arranged but that doesn't mean that she have to fit into that category as well, does it? Plus, She was just twenty, fresh out of college. She didn't want to enter into a marriage now much less with some stranger! "And how exactly marrying a stranger would do me any good?" Alisha tried to keep her voice straight laced and convincing because all she wanted to do was to throttle that billionaire, womanizing Casanova who proposed for her hand in marriage from her father without even showing his face once. 'Aditya Singhanina' She internally scoffed. All she needed to do was to search his name on internet and 'yuck' pages and pages of pictures articles came flowing in, about his past flings, lovers or whatever they were. Although there was a lot more about his business and work as well in those articles Alisha decided not to pay any heed to that. "Aditya is a nice man, he could provide you with everything. He is a handsome guy, with a flourishing company of billions. "And here went her father, Rajeev Bose's rambling again. "Dad, I don't want to say this......, but I have a feeling that it's not him, you have chosen for me. But his company! You have chosen his company for yourself! " 'Ouch!' Alisha winced at her own words. It wasn't supposed to come out like that but it did and now she lost even the courage to look at her father anymore who sat at the head of the table. She could feel the rest two pairs of eyes on her, apparently her mother and brother were here too witnessing this crack between the land which was slowly widening. "Alisha, is this the way to talk to your father? And how could you think like that? He's your father, he loves you and he is thinking of your well fare, how could you accuse him like that? "Her mother sat there, glaring at her with accusing eyes. "Oh really mom? Then tell me what quality did you saw in that moron,,.. other than his so called company? He is a womanizer, a cruel heartless womanizer! "At that time she didn't really care if they were hurt by her words because for some reason they were head over heels to get her married and that got her pissed off. "Alisha, now don't tell me you believe those dirt digging tabloids." Her bother Surya butted him and for some reason it made her angrier. He had sided with her parents too. "Of course I do!" Alisha glared at him. She was disappointed. "Ali..." her mom was again ready with her long lecture, but the unexpected happened, her Dad silently raised his hand, a sign to stop. His face was devoid of any emotions, calm and composed. "I don't want any further discussion on this." he said out of blue. "The engagement will be held the day after tomorrow and the wedding is in the next week, Sunday. No more discussions! " Rajeev pushed away the desert plate on the dining table and stood up and turned around to leave for his room. As if they were just discussing about the weather and he excused himself to go for some errand to run. "Dad! how could you do this to me? I....I don't want to.....to marry him."And she felt her own voice quivering; Not able to believe that it was her own father who was forcing her into a marriage against her will. What was wrong with him? After all, why? She wanted answers. "Dad you are taking a wrong-" "Alisha, that's enough, don't try to tell me what is wrong and what is right! I have already done a lot of wrong things, but not anymore......I was wrong to send you to California for your higher studies. I gave you more than enough freedom. Your mom warned me many times, but I loved you so much, that I didn't listen to her and here is the result to my wrong deeds. You turned out to be totally spoilt. This is what you have learned in California? To talk to your elders like that? From your childhood you asked and I gave whatever it was. And now I was just telling you about Aditya. I was not forcing you to marry him. Was I? But now it's my decision that you will marry him, no matter what! "With that said her father did not wait another minute to listen to any other counter attacks. He walked out on her! Sealing her fate! Flashback over. With the beeping oven Alisha was bought back to the present. It had been six long years....so long that she can't anymore feel the pain that used numb her senses before, when her past was concerned. But not now, not anymore. She had moved on and learned something- that there was no turning back from whatever that had happened and all she could do is to embrace it. She had lost many-many things in those six months staying married but the one thing she had earned in return is her daughter, her life and a golden key to a happy future! "Joe come' on baby......dinner's ready!" She called out. Mumbai, India Singhania corp. Ltd With the slight sound of the elevator, indicating someone's arrival the steel doors opened as the CEO and owner of Sighania imperials walked into the corridor of 14th floor where his office resides. The people all working around in their cubicles and fax machines and phones all stood stoic for a moment or so as he passed them away on his way, wishing everyone with only a gruff nod each time someone wished him good morning. "Oh my God he looks devilishly handsome each time I see him." Stella, the young receptionist murmured, still standing in a trance watching his back disappearing into his office. "You know he don't date anyone dear, so stop thinking about him too much. And besides every single girl in the office is after him. "Mrs. shah the middle aged women said who worked as the personal secretary of Aditya Singhania from last nine years. And had caught the murmur and stood like the headmistress of a school in front of a red faced Stella. "And why is that Mrs. Shah? You are working here for nine years now; you know the reason behind that, right?" Stella asked the woman with much interest. "Because he is married Stella dear." Mrs. Shah replied smilingly. "He is ma...married?" Stella's eyebrows arched in the middle and her pupils dilated. "But I have never heard about Mrs. Singhania. " "It's better if you don't! " ~~~ Flashback Six years ago "Mom, how could I marry a girl, whom I had never met before? " He protested as his mother kept on blabbering about a girl named Alisha Bose, according to which she was the daughter of the famous business man, Rajeev Bose who owns India's one of the largest Iron and steel industry. "Oh son, I know you have spent more than half of your life in US, and you are more fascinated to the western culture but here in India, most of the marriages are arranged and believe me they do work!" 'well guess what? Who cares if it works or not? Because I am not going to enter into one!' He silently thought, keeping his mouth shut as not trying to hurt his mother's feelings. And his mother being her indignant and stubborn self kept on jabbered on as he watched her, stuffing his mouth with the tasty pasta. "Waatever! But I wonk maaey herr." He munched while having a mouthful of pasta. And suddenly his mother threw her head back and started to laugh, "Aditya, did I ever told you, not to talk with your mouthful? " She said and started to burst out again and eventually he joined her. But as soon as his plate was empty, the pasta and apple pie all gone his mother picked up the topic again, whoever the girl was Aditya already wanted to snap her neck in two. She had already made his life miserable. "At least meet her once!" And his mom went again on her blabbering spree. "Ok-ay mom, I will meet her but I have a condition!" "And what exactly Is that?" "I'll meet her and if I don't like her you'll have to drop it right then and never again mention about this Alisha!" He raised his eyebrows ready for his mother's challenge while all he got in return was a devilish smile. "Challenge accepted, son!"
