Chapter 8 Basement

1342 Words
When Glenn returned to his doorstep, he sniffed the air slightly to confirm that Black Crow had been there. He took out the key from under a stone and opened the door of his own house. The things were all placed behind the door. He knew that Black Crow probably didn't go inside but just put the things down and left directly. He really does things simply... Sighing in his heart, Glenn picked up the things and entered the house. He had to think of a way to preserve the pork he got in the morning for a longer time. There were no refrigerators in this world, so he decided to use the traditional method, which was smoking the meat. It seemed that there was freezing magic in this world. He had to learn about it when he had the chance, so he wouldn't have to worry about keeping food fresh... Glenn's mind wandered as he dealt with the things in the kitchen bit by bit. ... Today, she experienced an unforgettable despair. Leila couldn't imagine how she would face life without her mother. Fortunately, a kind sir saved her life. "My child, you must thank that kind sir well. In such times, there are very few people like him." Mrs. Deli, Leila's mother, gently patted Leila's hand and said, "You are a girl who knows how to repay kindness. I'm sure of this." "Okay, Mom. Tomorrow I'll ask around where Byeck Town is. If possible, I'll call my friends along." Leila replied to her mother gently. "That's fine. Just be careful with etiquette. It's best that your friends don't do anything that leaves a bad impression." "Don't worry, Mom. They are all very polite people." While talking to her mother, Leila consciously recalled her impression of Glenn. He was a thin young man, seemingly not much older than herself. Compared to the people around, he had a different kind of temperament. His gaze was always calm and composed. His clothes were as simple as hers. It was such a person that made her unconsciously recall him. There's always something different about him. What exactly is it... Just as Leila was gradually lost in her thoughts, a sentence from her mother pulled her thoughts back. "We should perhaps consider moving again..." There was tiredness on her mother's haggard face. "Moving again?" Leila found it hard to accept. She had lived here for several years, got to know many friends and neighbors. Moving meant parting with everything familiar. They had moved twice before. Every time, they had to adapt to a new environment. This was very unfair for a fifteen-year-old girl. "You also know that your father found us again. He almost killed me today. If there weren't police officers patrolling nearby, I don't know what would have happened." Mrs. Deli held Leila's hands and looked at her with heartache in her eyes. "I know, Mom..." Leila looked at her mother's face, which still had remaining injuries, and the heartache for her in the other's eyes. obviously It was her mother who was injured. What was her own grievance compared to that? ... He came back very late yesterday and was dealing with the kitchen, so Glenn didn't wake up until eleven o'clock in the morning. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and opened the window on the second floor, and saw the old neighbor holding a Rottweiler puppy coming back from the direction outside the town. This old man really likes dogs! Glenn lay by the window and greeted loudly below, "Good neighbor! Where did you buy the dog? It looks great!" Suddenly hearing such a loud voice on the quiet street of Byeck Town, the old man was startled. He looked viciously at the source of the sound. Seeing that it was Glenn, his expression froze, and then he snorted and ignored it. Glenn smiled and then retreated into the house and began to wash up. Suddenly remembering something, he whistled out of the window. Immediately, a huge beast rushed out from the fog in the distance and quickly reached Glenn's house. The beast squatted below, as if waiting for orders. The slightly glowing eyes showed a focused light. "Guard in the forest outside the town. If you encounter a girl coming, protect her in the dark." Glenn stuck his head out and gave an order. The beast seemed to straighten its body, as if saluting. One felt that if it could talk, it would say: Yes, Sir. Then it rushed out of the town like the wind. Today Glenn was going to remodel the furnishings in the house, especially the fireplace. Since it was closed, it couldn't be used for smoking meat. He had to modify it. Glenn had just started to smash a corner of the fireplace made of brick and stone when his sensitive ears immediately heard something wrong from below. He put down the tool hammer and tapped gently on the floor. Dong dong... After some probing, he found the location where the abnormal sound came from. Although it was very subtle, he did discover it. It's empty below? Glenn looked surprised. When the original homeowner introduced it, there was no mention of a basement or anything like that in this house. Out of curiosity, Glenn searched the house, looking for an entrance to go down. Unless it was absolutely necessary, he didn't want to damage his floor. With determination, a trapdoor hidden under a large wooden cabinet in the utility room was found. The trapdoor was wrapped with rusty iron chains. It could be seen that the culprit was very reluctant for anyone to enter below. But this was useless for Glenn. He just used the strength of a werewolf slightly and broke the iron chains and opened the trapdoor. There was a wooden staircase extending downward. A rotten smell came from below. Glenn, with his sensitive sense of smell, frowned, but he wouldn't back down. He found a kerosene lantern at home, lit it, and carefully walked down the wooden staircase to the trapdoor. When his feet touched the ground, Glenn saw the scene here clearly in the light. The first thing he saw was countless rats squeaking and hiding in the darkness. Then there were several old bookshelves, and the books on them had been gnawed and were in tatters. On a rotten wooden round table, there were miscellaneous items. Seemingly glassware bottles and jars were scattered under the table, all broken, and the liquid inside had leaked out. Glenn explored this basement lightly, constantly making sounds of amazement. He never expected that there was such a place under his house. He randomly took a relatively intact book from the bookshelf and opened it. "Hall Morgen what is the second alternative of something... Spell Seal..." Glenn struggled to read a paragraph. Finally, he closed the book and complained in Chinese, "Damn! What the hell is this! I can't understand it at all!" He put the book back on the bookshelf and rummaged through the miscellaneous items on the round table. They were all drafts and containers. There was nothing worth noting, so he continued to explore the basement. Because it wasn't large here, he finished exploring quickly. To Glenn's great disappointment, there was almost nothing valuable here. However, just now he found another door and placed his hope behind that door. Hope there are a few good things inside... Standing in front of that door, Glenn took a deep breath. This door was made of dark brown wood with ancient patterns on it. The frame around it was engraved with runes. There was something like a clock on the top. But this thing only had one pointer, and the dial had five areas written in strange characters, evenly distributed on the dial. Now the pointer pointed to the area directly above. He turned the doorknob. With a click, the door slowly opened. Glenn didn't notice that the moment he opened the door, the character pointed to by the pointer on the disc above glowed slightly.
