KIARA’S POINT OF VIEW
What was I supposed to do? Samael looked ready to kill and Leviathan was still not his own self. I understand that I was a little impulsive, but why did he hug me? It’s not like I forced myself on him the second time. In fact, he didn’t refuse my gesture initially too. Did he get the wrong idea?
“I thought you were getting beer, Leviathan.”
Samael was controlling his anger as he was literally spitting his words through gritted teeth. Is he afraid that I will harm his friend or does he think Leviathan will become my acquaintance? Does he not trust his friend?
“I was on my way when I saw her.”
Leviathan’s eyes were still on me, and it was staring at me in a very strange way. Did he not understand why I hugged him? Of course, I too would have been dumbfounded if someone hugged me without any reason. I should have explained to him first.
Samael noticed his friend’s intense expression and moved a little so that he was now in between me and his Leviathan. I scoffed on seeing his reaction. It’s not like I will eat this demon alive.
“I am sorry.”
I blurted out, not liking the situation at all. Besides, the baby unicorn in my bag has started to move and I should leave this place before it makes any noise.
Samael turned to me, his orbs still red. Seriously, what is his problem? I smiled at him, despite his death glare, and took a step to the right, not wanting to irritate him anymore. He must have really thought that I was harmless after the library scene and somehow I must keep up with that idea. Also, it was my fault to begin with and I should take the blame instead of putting a spark between the friends.
“I was the one who hugged Leviathan first.”
I said and watched Samael clenching his fist and his eyes glowed. Should I run now?
“Why?”
His voice was just above a whisper, but it me gulp in uneasiness. I can’t even take the pouch out without letting them know of the unicorn’s existence. I was really in a tight spot and Leviathan wasn’t talking at all.
“I had to check something.”
“What?”
His one worded interrogation was getting into my nerves, but I just brushed it off for the betterment of everyone. I can’t lose my control now and jeopardize the unicorn’s life as well as others if something happens to me. I have to be safe for my family and Rachel, even if it involved pretending to be good with my enemies.
“The energy. Usually when I touch anyone from underworld, both of gets electrocuted because of the energy colliding. You remember how you pulled away from me in the library? That's how it should be. But with Leviathan, it was different. I have never heard of such a thing before and got carried away while experimenting. I am really sorry.”
There was no need for me to give such a long explanation, but something told me that he wouldn’t leave me before getting into the root of this problem.
“It is okay with you touching him, but not me? Was that the only reason?”
Did I sense a sliver of disappointment in his voice? Or was that relief? I don’t know and I don’t care. It’s not my concern about what his feelings are. All I need is to escape from this place as soon as possible, at least somewhere comfortable enough, where I can use my wings.
“Yes.”
I thought of bidding goodbye and was about to when Samael raised his hand and touched my cheeks, only to retract it at lightning speed. I hissed through clenched teeth and covered my cheek with my palm as well, as the sting began to spread all over my face. Why would he do that? Did he need proof?
“Touch his arm. Just his arm.”
Who is he to order me? Samael was still massaging his knuckles, but all his attention was on me. It seemed ridiculous to do as he says but it would not be bad to double check myself. Because I had a doubt that the energies must be accepting each other because of the sacred creature in my bag, however with Samael the intensity of pain was still the same and there was no way the unicorn had anything to do with it. The reason must be something else.
By now, Leviathan has returned to his normal self and was interestingly watching the interaction between me and Samael. On hearing his friend’s command, Leviathan took slow steps towards me and extended his hand for me to hold.
I took his palm for a handshake and gripped it tightly, only to be surprised again. It was true. Leviathan was really unaffected and so was I.
SAMAEL’S POINT OF VIEW
Leviathan was acting weird, and I suspected if she enchanted him, yet I wanted to throw a punch at him for touching her inappropriately. She has just been for a single day and already I am fighting with my friends. This is definitely bad.
After she confessed that it was she who actually hugged him, I saw red. Was she attracted to him? Did she like him? What would have happened if I hadn’t showed up by then? Would things have escalated? My mind was buzzing with all the questions, and I had the sudden urge to break something after unwanted images of them together filled my brain.
But it all vanished once she explained what the reason was, and that’s when I actually thought about it. What she said made proper sense. I still remember the pain and how she mumbled about the energies. I knew that everyone from underworld had negative energies and all the members of heaven has positive energies. There is no way it can coexist in a single body unless you are a human.
I touched her again, just to reassure about our auras and again pain shot through my fingers. Although it seemed like my hand was burning, I could feel her warm skin for a second and the pain was mixed with a slight tingle. Why does her touch affect me so much?
I asked Kiara to touch Leviathan, who looked a lot better than before, and was surprised to see her gripping his hand without both of them flinching or exhibiting any sort of discomfort. Why him? It can’t be because he has positive energy, since we make body contact all the time and nothing is out of the ordinary. Besides, he is the son of a demon and we all should have the same energy.
“Strange, isn’t it? With him, I can do anything and not feel any pain. I touched Keres before and it was as same as you. I don’t know how this is possible.”
She can do anything? Did she have to say it so specifically? And why the hell do I care? The amusement in her eyes while she stared at their connected hands was making me furious again, so I just pulled Leviathan towards me, watching their limbs falling apart. Much better.
“Are you okay? Don’t you feel anything?”
I asked, not wanting to look awkward or affected by their interaction. Leviathan shrugged his shoulder and looked back at Kiara with a neutral face. He wasn’t giving anything away, and it was making me more suspicious of him. He hated her more than me, but now it seems like it was all in the past. Can just a physical approach change him so much? Is it because she is an angel?
“I didn’t know why she hugged me suddenly, but I felt a sense of familiarity with her touch. Like I have experienced that feeling before. I was reminded of my old house and room and you know how much I hate it, but now it was oddly calming. That's why I didn’t let go of her.”
“Your old house? Why?”
His mother was killed in the old house and Leviathan despised it more than anything. He wouldn’t go to that place even if his life depended on it. Hence, I knew that he will not lie about it and nodded my head as he shrugged his shoulders again.
“Anyhow, I didn’t know why it happened, so curiosity got the better of me and my rational side of brain just shut down temporarily. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and misunderstanding I have caused because of my stupid actions. Will see you in school tomorrow since I am sure you are in all of my classes. Good day to both of you.”
Saying that, Kiara bowed at us and ran to the other direction, giving us no time to respond.
“That wasn’t weird at all.”
Leviathan murmured and I couldn’t agree less. She was literally running away from us and soon the lain was left with just the two of us.
“Why were you here, anyway?”
This wasn’t the way to the beer shop, and this side of the school was usually empty. So how did they both end up here together? Wasn’t she staying at the girls’ dorm?
“I smelt something burning and came here to check, but found her instead. Her hands were covered in ashes and I got doubtful when she didn’t answer my questions. I snatched her hand before she ran away and then she hugged me.”
So that’s what happened. I crouched down to see what she burnt, but there was no evidence and I just brushed it off as something unimportant. Only paper would burn into fine powders in such a short time, so there was nothing to be suspicious about.
“Why did you follow me?”
Right!
