I woke up to complete darkness. I could hear Matteo’s soft breathing beside me, letting me know he was still fast asleep. I reached towards my phone, looking at the time. 8:00. I hadn’t slept this well in a while. I thought to myself. Stretching my arms upwards. I had a class with my aunt at ten today, so I got up and headed towards the bathroom to freshen up.
The entire house was dark, which made it difficult to see where I was going. I knew the bathroom was just across the hall, but looking at the pitch blackness made it seem like it was further away. I ran across the hall, touching the other end, then using my hand to search for the door. Once I found it I opened it slowly, turning on the lights and closing the door.
