D A N I.
Right now, I am wearing a perfect smile, because as a daughter of the Alpha, I had to be the most perfect girl. Doing what they want is something I would never get tired of doing.
I got a doctorate in medicine, I was awarded best doctor of the Year, and lastly, I married the man I never loved.
Picture this; Dani Smith, the medical doctor, married to the Alpha of Blue Crescent Pack for a year, without a child. Perfect, just wonderful, sometimes I hate my parents for making me do all the things I never wanted to do, and lastly, I hate my husband.
"Getting married to him will only increase our men." They said.
"You are the princess, how can you not commit to all of this?" They said.
I was pushed, my job was to do what they wanted, I abandoned my degree, and now I am a helpless Luna who never even sees her husband.
Liam Ward, the definition of the worst Alpha ever; cold, icy, even with the way he looks at me, he doesn’t like me, so why try anyway?
I clutch the papers in my hand, before pulling out the knob of the drawer of the table, squeezing the papers into it. I stare at the large room, the whisk of being alone, being the perfect Luna, I was getting used to it anyway.
"Luna?" Oh. I wasn’t alone, I turned around briefly to find my maid, Reike, staring at me, while bowing, her hands holding two dresses, a purple evening gown sparkling with pearls, and an off-neck red gown.
“Luna.’’ She says again, taking another brief bow. “The Alpha requests to see you.” She hesitates, before continuing. “Please pick a gown.”
I whisk away the papers on the table, that cold feeling washing over my spine, something seemed wrong, the Alpha King never fetches for me, what’s happening?
I fight away the cold feeling, before giving Reike a brief smile, I walk out of my office before making way for his, I am nervous, my heart is pounding, and my eyes almost pulled out.
When I reached the front door, I took in a brief breath, before pushing it open. There he was.
My husband, The Alpha, Liam Ward.
Here I go.
“You called for me?” I bowed briefly, facing the table in front of him, when last had I seen him? Last year?
He looks up from his stack of folders, glaring at me, those dark-green eyes that always sent me shiver down my spine, when my parents told me to get married to him, I doubted he liked me for the very first second, his voice always so cold like he’s telling me to just go away.
“Sit down. We need to talk.” That cold voice bounced back in my brain, and something tied in my stomach, I tried to wave off that feeling, purring on that perfect smile, I took a seat, facing him, the way he looked at me from the folders, chilly.
“This is for the benefit of our pack.” He says again, and now, I feel my heart pounding, my parents contributed to this pack by selling me off to them, according to my father, I was the bridge that linked my father’s pack and Liam’s pack.
I was getting nervous, oxygen rasped my lungs, my hands jabbing against my fingers. “What is it?”
He stares above me, my heart still racing, “Have you been using the medicine?” He asks again, and fearfully, I nod.
Because I was incapable of producing a child, his mother had requested I drink that bitter medicine, for months, I had been suppressing the bitter taste, maybe if I got pregnant, then nobody would look at me with those eyes, maybe they would all finally treat me with respect.
“What do I need to know?” I asked again, there’s something that he isn’t telling me, and I don’t know what, it’s fearful to even think about it.
“Your sister is coming back.” My heart takes a dangerous leap.
My twin sister who they compared me to was coming back, they never forced her to get married, she was obliged to do what she wanted but why in the hell were they telling me this?
“’ I can’t love you, Dani.” He says again, and the lump in my throat only intensifies the more, I gather the mist that knotted in my stomach.
“You are my husband, I am the Luna of this pack.” This is weird, this is outrageous. It has to stop.
He stares ahead of me, his breathing returning to normal. “Isn’t this what you have ever wanted?” he says again, and I frown. Deeper.
“Dani.’’ The way he calls my name is like usual, deep and casual like we had never had something going on. It is voiceless, I snap my eyes to look at him, the mist and fury burning in those dark lids.
“This marriage cannot work between us.” I don’t think I heard correctly, maybe the pills I took won’t let me hear well.
So I say, “Excuse me?”
“I love your sister.’’ I don’t think I heard, because my eyes are growing wild now, and it finally registers into my brain.
Still, I stay motionless, not saying a word.
He shrugged, his brows knitted into a deep frown, and his lips moved slowly. “Dani, I don’t want you to feel weird, that’s why I can’t let you live in this pack while I get married to your sister.”
“Are you kicking me out?” I finally say, my lips parting apart, I stare at his handsome face, the smug that appeared on his face.
He was kicking me out.
He doesn’t bother to reply, I don’t bother to talk.
Standing up, I adjusted my gown, making the pearls jingle in my ears. “You don’t need to kick me out, Alpha, as of today, I Dani Lupe retire and drop down the position of the Luna, I will however take my belongings and leave your pack.” I don’t fail to gaze at his face. “May we never cross paths again.’’ Holding my chin up, I walked elegantly towards the door.
Yup, that was worth it.
