Chapter 9 - Mate

1435 Words
POV - Bjorn She was so... different from all the other she-wolves I knew. Not only because she didn't actually have her wolf anymore but because there was a strength in her, a state of survival. She was so naive to this world, but she was still strong, I could sense it, and she had a mouth, the way she spoke to me, like her equal, sure, she didn't understand the ranking system of our world, but still, if it were any other wolf, I would have their head, but with her, it was different, I liked it. There was still so much I wanted to show here, tell her, but I knew I had to take it slow, I didn't want to scare her away. The hot water ran down my back as I leaned against the shower wall, thinking about her. I closed my eyes as her emerald green flashed in my mind. "Mate.." Zion growled, unsettled that we were so far from her. "We should tell her, now!" Zion continued, I could feel how restless he was. "Enough Zion," I answered him "We have to take our time, one wrong move and she could run off. " Zion laid down now, whimpering. "Fine, but soon" he growled. I pulled on a training shorts and sneakers and left to get Ryan. The sun started peering through the trees, it was only 05:00 and I wondered if she would be up yet. "Mate!" Zion jumped up excitedly as I looked up, only to walk straight into her tiny frame. She stumbled back slightly as she nervously chuckled. "We've got to stop meeting like this," She said, not looking me in the eye. 'Was she...nervous to be in my presence?' This made me smile slightly. She stood in front of me, dressed in a mid-thigh length tights and a sports bra. She'd braided her jet black hair back and was still looking away. "Good morning Ryan" I said, low and deep, almost growling. Her outfit was definitely going to distract me. "Good morning Bjorn" she answered, almost in a whisper and she looked up and our eyes locked. I could tell that she felt a pull towards me. "Tell her now!" Zion roared, pacing in the back of my mind, but I just ignored him. "Shall we?" I motioned towards the stairs She just nodded and we both headed to the training grounds. I was nervous to have her fight with the other warriors, but I needed her to be able to protect herself, seeing as she couldn't shift, and I might not always be around to protect her, even though the thought of leaving her alone made me nauseous. Madi, Alec, Finn and Genna were grouped up, naturally discussing the pros and cons of having Ryan train with the group. Everyone else was scattered both sides. I cleared my throat and everyone moved closer, Ryan instinctively moved to the far back, she's smart, an observer. "Todays exercise is fairly simple. As some of you have noticed, we have a house guest. Ryan is a decendent of Grimm, she'll be staying with us. Unfortunately, she is not able to shift, therefore, it's our job to get her up to speed with the fighting tactics used best for fighting supernaturals, in human form." I said, my voice thick with dominance. Most of the warriors nodded in understanding, some looked confused or in disagreement. " You think it wise? To let a mere moral train with us, to live with us? Alpha, this is not like you." A voice I unfortunately recognized all to well. Celeste. Her voice was laced with jealousy, she must have noticed the way I look at Ryan. "I think," she continued "the human might get hurt. they are so fragile after all. Grimm or not." Celeste gave Ryan a side glare and a smirk plastered on her face. I looked over to Ryan who stood confidently, her arms crossed and she was tapping a finger against her arm. Before I could say anything, Ryan answered. "Oh, but I think you underestimate us mere mortals, trust me, I can hold my own. I'll be sure to just grab a ball, I'm sure that'll distract you." Ryan's words were velvet, smooth and confident, she walked over to the sparing ring and called Celeste out. "Well then, shall we see how fragile I truly am?" She was way to confident, Celeste was right, we had the strength of our wolves to back us. Ryan might be faster and stronger than other humans, but against a werewolf that is actually tethered to their wolf, she would be weak. I moved to stop this but Celeste had already entered the ring. Ryan moved into a...fighting position. This was obviously not the first time she'd fought before. ... POV -Ryan. Okay, so maybe I was a bit too eager to kick her ass, but this chick really had my blood boiling. Mere human and FRAGILE!? If she wanted to piss me off, she'd succeeded. I lived on the run with my mother practically my entire life. My mother taught me self defence since an extremely young age, When we had settled in a small town, she made some friends with bad company, long story short, we made money betting on underground ring fights, and I was their star fighter. I looked over at Bjorn. He didn't have a shirt on, dammit, distracting much. Maybe to my advantage, seeing as my back chat seemed to embarrass this chick in front of him, she must have a thing for him. I mean, who wouldn't, he was dreamy. The thought of the two of them together, somehow made me even more mad. "Celeste, you may not shift, it's Ryan's first practice so we'll stick to human form for now, am I clear?" Bjorn said, but he wasn't looking at her, he was looking at me, he looked a bit worried. I nodded at him and smiled, trying g to reassure him that I'd be okay. I readied myself and stood in a fighting position, waiting for my attacker to make her first move. She ran at me, full speed, I could be the fury in her eyes. I dropped to the floor, crouching the the side and brought my left leg up, hitting her in her abdomen, knocking the wind out of her. Everyone around the ring gasped in shock as she heaved for air. I took the opportunity to connect my fist with her face, it didn't knock her out but she staggered back. She looked even more enraged as I started laughing, preparing for another attempt at a strike. She punched in the direction of my face, which I dodged but she was able to get me with the second punch, damn she's fast, but she was sloppy, allowing her anger to drive her fight. This made me smile, one thing I've learnt through the years is to never fight angry. I wiped the blood from my split lip. "Nice hit, for a puppy" I said with a smirk, my plan was to feed off of her anger, force her to make stupid decisions. She tried to hit me again but I dodged it, and hit her in her unprotected side, she really was a sloppy fighter. 'enough games, time to finish this' I told myself. I hit her in the side of her face with my elbow then crouched down quickly, sweeping her legs from under her. She landed hard of the ground as a few of the spectators laughed. I jumped on her and hit my fist hard into the ground, right next to her head, indicating that I could have easily given her a free nose job. " Don't ever underestimate me again" I spat at her. I got up and held my hand out to her, offering her assistance. She just stared at me, turned her head and spat out some blood that has accumulated in her mouth. She hit my hand away and got up and growled at me. I rolled my eyes at her and walked away when I heard cracking sounds an a deep growl. I turned around as Celeste shifted and was now charging at me in wolf form. I panicked, not knowing what to do when Bjorns wolf jumped over me, landing in front of me protectively. He growled so low that I swear I felt the ground shake. Celeste's wolf crouched down into a submissive position and whimpered. "Anyone who touches my mate, dies" Bjorns wolf growled. "Mate?..."
