On the day Adrian treated us to dinner, I happened to visit my mentor because of the documents.
Mrs. Whitman was very warm when she saw me. When she brought up how I had nearly died half a month ago, her heart ached all over again, and she brought me plenty of nourishing food.
"Did Ethan not come with you?"
Professor Whitman had never thought much of Ethan. He had always felt that while Ethan was professionally capable, he was lacking in character.
So for all six years that I had been with Ethan, he had always asked me with a face full of exasperated disappointment why I had chosen a boyfriend like that.
"Ah, he... has something to do."
In truth, I had no idea whether he actually had anything to do. I simply did not want to lay out the mess of my relationship in front of Professor Whitman and upset him for no reason.
"Hmph."
Professor Whitman gave a cold snort and then changed the subject, asking why I had come.
I handed the documents to Professor Whitman. He opened them and looked through them, then called someone from inside the house to help me get what I needed.
"You've finally thought it through. Half a year ago, I already told you not to throw away your future because of that Walker boy..."
When Professor Whitman lectured me, I did not dare refuse to listen. I could only nod repeatedly and agree.
That person handed the things to me. I thanked him softly, and as I was leaving, I received a call from Ethan.
He asked where I was and said he would pick me up so we could go together.
I only told him there was no need and that I would go myself. Then I hung up.
It was almost time for the dinner gathering with Adrian, and I had never liked being late.
But I did not expect to see, inside the private dining room, the same man who had appeared at Professor Whitman's home half an hour earlier.
And there were Ethan and... Natalie.
