CHAPTER 2 EMERYS’S POV This was a show for the crowd. And it didn’t help that I wasn’t noble or alpha blood; if anything, that worsened the situation. “I’ll let you off today with your last warning. Stay away from me, or I’ll show you why omegas like you don’t deserve to be here.” Like a detonated bomb, murmurs broke out at the revelation of my wolf status. I thought the white hair and blue eyes were absolute giveaways, but it seemed like they had their doubts until my supposed sister aired it out in the open. “What is she doing here?” “How did an omega get in?” “I heard there was a special admission; I had no idea it was being given to an omega.” More and more opinions poured in like a waterfall, and for the first time in my life, I wanted the ground to open up and save me from the humiliation. “Can’t believe I was touched by an omega. How filthy!” The next thing I felt was my entire body soaking up the liquid dumped over me. My gaze angled, and I saw the guy I’d previously pushed and stopped from hurting Cara. His eyes shone with disgust. “Yes! Make her pay!” “Do more!” “Show her what she deserves!” “Her kind is not welcome in here!” I scanned through everyone’s faces, crushed by the awful looks in their eyes; the heavy disdain. I need to get out of here before it gets worse. I scrambled up to my feet, breaking into a run as soon as I got into a stance. I didn’t care whether they’d chase after me or let me escape; I just needed to save myself. I’m new to the environment, but evading the corners was as easy as getting lost. I wasn’t sure how far I’d gotten by the time I arrived at a dull, illuminated hallway. The walls were stone, and the wall torches beamed weakly. Grave silence stalked after each step I took against the packed earth floor as I continued a steady walk down the passage. There was darkness ahead, but it could also be a door to a balcony or a room I could hide inside till the commotion outside went away. I reached the end, and it was a door. I grabbed the huge handle, pushed it open, rushed inside, and slammed it closed without thinking twice. Only then did I realize there was no balcony behind the door nor a room suitable for hiding. The darkness in here was blinding, as was the thick stench of blood that filled my senses. I looked around, unable to see a thing but readily sensing a greater danger. I grabbed the door handle to slip back out through the same space I came in through, but the knob wouldn’t budge. “Help…” Somebody called out from the darkness. It was a male voice that sounded drained and in pain. “Please, help me.” Fear gripped me hard like a caging vice, and my heart began to beat crazy fast. I wanted to ask who that was, but something deep inside of me was telling me to keep shut; to pretend like I’m not here. A loud snarl erupted, followed by the nasty tearing of flesh. ‘What is going on? What did I walk into?’ I couldn’t scream that out. I moved even closer to the door, stabilizing my racing breaths into sluggish draws of air. Fighting the panic that whatever was tearing that person’s attack shouldn’t sniff out my fright to catch on my presence. ‘Why the hell is the door refusing to open?!’ I sobbed out mentally, praying to the goddess—the universe, whoever lives up in the sky- to keep me alive. “Who are you?” Air hung in my throat, and my chest thumped to an abrupt pause. Is that question for me? “Your scent is nauseating; speak up before I make you my next meal.” “I’m Emerys. I came in here to hide,” I gave him a response, in a tone that concealed my fear. He hummed, “You’re more than your name, Emerys. Who are you? I can smell your blood, and it doesn’t drive me crazy like many others do.” “Did you just kill someone?” The voice of someone begging for help, the vicious snarls I heard, and the sound of a body's flesh tearing apart. Does the beast possess consciousness? “We’ll meet again, Emerys!” The darkness faded away with his voice, transforming the pitch-black space into a semblance of an abandoned room. Spider webs covered most parts of the room; from the corners to the ceiling, the webs were all over the single chair and desk inside the room. There was no murder scene like I thought would appear. No stain of blood, nothing to speak about the earlier brawl I walked myself into. I tried opening the door, and it gave way this time around. This is weird. I’m certain of what just happened. I walked further into the room in hopes of searching around for anything unusual. Maybe a spot on the wall or a mark that’s out of the ordinary. I’m not mad. I spoke with the beast; I told him my name, and a voice begged for help! I hadn’t even begun my search when the sound of a body slamming through the door caught my attention. Who kicked him into the room? Three men marched in afterwards, and I was instantly whisked away by their unnatural beauty and glazing aura. The one in the middle stood the tallest amongst the trio; like a god carved out of art, he looked breathtakingly gorgeous. It was the same for the taller one on his right side, hair long and blonde, the face of temptation and sin. The last one had a face that was that of a mesmerizing angel, the beauty of a night star. “Who are you?” I kept my dull gaze trained on them. “Emerys,” I let out in my usual dry tone. I looked down on the student struggling to stand on his feet with blood trickling down his lips. “I think I’ll leave,” I declared, attempting to walk through them when the tallest one blocked my path; his jade eyes glaring down at me. “Not so soon!”
