CHAPTER 3
EMERYS’S POINT OF VIEW
I just had to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, didn’t I?
What I would give right now to become invisible or vanish for a few hours at least. Can’t believe I ran away from a pushing fuss to end up inside another risky encounter.
Who are these people? My brows furrowed at the one blocking my path, hindering me from taking off.
“Whatever is going on is none of my business,” I said to him with a level expression.
Never show your fear or that you’re scared of something. Once it is visible, people are aware that things get to you.
“How did she end up in here?” The blonde out of the trio slipped around me like a creepy shadow.
He sniffed me in momentarily before exhaling a satisfied smile, as though he’d been gifted his favourite candy.
“You smell delicious,” he remarked, voice as heavy as the hunger burning through those hot red irises.
He flashed me a toothy grin that exposed two lengthy canines- fangs. Is he a vampire? Of course he is. The fangs?!
“I taste like the opposite,” I muttered with a blank gaze fixed on him. “I would know because I enjoy hurting myself, and sometimes like to drink the blood disbursed during each ordeal.”
The plan is simple. Creep them out, do it well enough, and I might walk out of here alive with no holes in my neck.
He retracted away from me, eyeing me through a squint and a pursed lip. The entirety of his countenance was a silly appeal to the eyes.
“She’s weird.” He nodded.
“Interesting,” the pole that stood tallest in the middle mused back in a faint tone, a counter comment to what his vampire buddy deduced.
“She did just say she hurts herself and drinks her own blood sometimes, right?” The third one was what I expected them all to be. Freaked.
He’s literally looking at me with unduly judgmental eyes that are seeking to pry into my mental archives.
“You can either let me out to go stab myself, or I stay back on the deal that I bleed to death. Deal?”
I scanned through their faces for a predictable reaction. Two were amused, and the last one of them was spooked as he was about to drink my blood.
The middle guy stepped a foot forward, closer to where I stood. Keen fascination blazed through those sharp grey eyes trained still on my figure.
“Who are you?” The question aired out in a rumble, heavily coated with his interest.
“Someone that’s not important enough for you to know,” I told him as blandly as my voice could maintain.
“She’s fresh on campus; I’m certain she’s new and one of this year’s aspirants,” the blood-sucking dude decided to answer for me.
“I say we keep her around then; I want to know more about her,” Mister Pole addressed me as though I wasn’t standing right in front of him.
“She drinks her blood!”
Oh. Looks like the third one still hasn’t gotten over that.
“Excuse me, please. If you’re not going to kill me, I should be on my way.” I gestured for them to create me a space.
Both the vampire and the pole of a person stepped out of my path; I didn’t waste one second before marching right through their midst.
I could feel their eyes pinned on me, but I refused to acknowledge them until I was far from them and kind of safe.
Finding my way back to the assembly ground was just as hectic as leaving the hall to begin with.
No maps, no indicators; it’s just me wandering around each passage till one of them eventually spilled me right where I was looking to be.
The crowd had significantly reduced, and only a few students were left roaming the premises.
“You look lost.”
My eyes went to the side where the voice came from; behind me stood a pretty face with the biggest smile.
“I’m Amelia, and I’ve been assigned your dormmate.” She stretched forth a palm for me to take.
I looked around, confused. “I don’t think I am; I’m assigned with my sister, not a stranger.”
“Your sister’s name is Cara?”
I squinted at her, neither confirming nor denying.
“She specifically went for the reassignment; she demanded a new roommate that wasn’t her sister. I’ve been looking for you ever since.”
Cara didn’t want me as her roommate. As pleasing as that sounds, I still need to be closer to her to be able to protect her. This place is crawling with predators; she’s not safe alone or on her own.
“I’m sorry, but she wouldn’t do that,” I said to the nice girl and walked away from her.
I need to find Cara and convince her to rescind her demand. Her dad wouldn’t want that for us.
She started following suit. “Where are you going to?” She quizzed from behind.
“It doesn’t concern you, but I’m going to find my sister.”
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
I paused in my motion. That sounded like a threat, and I am not going to have that pardoned or ignored.
“Are you threatening me?” I whirled my cold gaze around to face her.
“No, I’m looking out for you. Your sister’s got people out looking for you, and here you are planning to go to her yourself.”
“If she’s looking for me, then maybe it’s because she wants to talk to me?” I countered her insinuation.
“You wish. She made a vow to find a way to send you out of the academy, and because you’re an omega who doesn’t belong, many are now on her side. You’re lying low till trial prep is over.
“Hopefully, we can survive this week and the next just like that. Because orientation isn’t due until the next two weeks, and unless you pass your trainings, you’re not getting oriented. And they’ve given themselves two weeks to drive you out.”
Did I just hear myself become a target for expulsion on my first day at the academy?
“What...?” I blinked in utter awe. To think Cara, my supposed sister, would be behind this?
She hates me that much?
