The afternoon sun spilled through the blinds as Lila stepped into Kaden’s apartment, her notebook clutched in her hands. The space was neat, stylish, and reflected the calm confidence she had come to associate with him. “Welcome,” Kaden said casually, gesturing toward the table. “Set your bag down, and we can start.” Lila smiled faintly, placing her bag neatly on the floor. “Thanks,” she said, keeping her voice steady, betraying none of the quickened heartbeat she felt being so close to him. They spread out their project materials, and Lila immediately tried to guide him through a tricky section. “Maybe we can organize the research like this,” she suggested, pointing at the outline. Kaden tilted his head, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “You’re really bossy when it comes to projects, aren’t you?” Lila kept her tone calm. “I’m just trying to make this efficient. I like it too, she admitted to herself silently, hiding every flutter of excitement. By the end of the session, the project was complete and neatly organized. Kaden leaned back, smirking faintly. “Not bad. You might just make a good partner after all.” Lila nodded calmly, collecting her notes. “Thanks. You were… helpful too.” Kaden’s dark eyes met hers briefly. “Efficient and focused. That’s the combination I like,” he said, with a faint smirk before turning back to the table.
