TOM POV
As soon as we entered the house, we heard a man yelling upstairs. I signaled for Deputy Phillips and Marco to follow me upstairs. I positioned Marco next to the staircase, in case anyone tried to run.
The closer we got to the bedroom door, the more my heart raced. I could hear some of the conversation between Nick and Ruby. It was possessive and insane. He was coming off as more of an emotionally triggered stalker than we had anticipated. He seemed unhinged. That in itself made me more eager to get inside and get my Ruby away from him before he harmed her anymore.
I continued to listen. Her voice was distressed when she spoke. It did something to the beast inside of me. What was mine was now being threatened and taken from me. People have died for less with me.
