Elena’s POV
Kade called me to his study that night after dinner. I’d spent the entire afternoon pacing my room, nervously awaiting the call. But when I hurried downstairs, for the first time, I didn’t feel fear—only the tingling nerves of excitement.
“Come in,” Kade’s muffled voice called out when I knocked. I took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
I set foot in the room and froze in my tracks.
There she was. Ivy. My little girl with the name of poison… Bundled in Kade’s arms, stirring and wide-eyed.
Kade glanced up at me from the swaddled infant in his arms, and for a moment, the softness in his expression made my throat constrict. But he quickly smoothed it over with his usual cool indifference and stood.
I slowly walked across the room, heart pounding, and held my arms out.
