Chapter 16

Major’s POV It was when dinner arrived that I realised I had no appetite to eat, so I kindly had the chef get it into my bedroom so I could eat it when I got myself together. I was checking to get a response from Haven, and I didn't even think that she might want to tell me in person when she gets to work the next day. I also refused to drink, not damn interested in anything. “Prez? Is everything okay?” I turned to see Nova, holding her plate of food and wanting to sit down opposite me. “Since your treatments ended, you hadn't even cared if I were around. Did I offend you so much?” “Get off!” Aron growled behind me, and Nova got her f*****g ass off the seat. “You should learn to read the atmosphere. Does he look like he wants to chat?” She shook her head, “He looks like something's eating him up, and that's why I'm concerned too. Did something happen?” Aron glanced at me and then back at Nova. “You lost it? f**k off!!” “Oh my!” Nova grimaced and turned around, leaving us. “If she isn't good at her job, I would like her sacked for the way she pesters you,” Aron added and flicked his finger to my face. “What's going on?” “Waiting for her response…” “Might not come tonight. You should eat something.” I patted my belly, “Can't…” “Oh, blood, you gotta go crazy over her?” “Don't want to miss this opportunity. My dad's frustrating me, so I don't want to give up,” I said and took off my earbud. It was after I disconnected it from my cell phone that her call came in, and my eyes flew open. “She's calling. I would like to have hope right now.” And after our call, I didn't realise when I went into my bedroom to gobble up my meal. Aron followed me, laughing so hard while I gobbled on my meal. “You know, buddy. When you mentioned liking her years back, I didn't realise how serious these feelings were. Even now that she came into the light again, I thought those feelings were dead. You never fell hard for your ex, but this lady's already making you go crazy when you aren't even dating yet.” I didn't mind responding until I emptied the plate of the meal. “After this, I should start researching how to make her fall for me. She needs to get over my bro and understand that I ain't the same with that asshole,” I said after emptying the bottle of water too. “Who cares if my dad doesn't like her? He wouldn't even care since it has to do with me.” That night was the best for me, because I slept peacefully, and my mood never shifted until the next day. I went to her workshop in the evening, and we agreed on how the dinner would be. “I hope you don't mind if I dress this way? I don't feel comfortable in feminine dress, and the last time I tried it, regardless, I met your brother f*****g my sister on his bed. So, I don't wanna get those memories back through my dressing,” she told me, and I had a good look at her. I walked closer to her and adjusted the collar of her shirt. “Uhm, should I say I prefer you this way? It could be because I've gotten used to seeing you this way.” Her face brightened up. I truly liked how she dressed masculine. Not like she wouldn't look good dressed feminine, but her jean trousers with a shirt always fit her. We discussed how to meet on the weekend evening before I left. ~~~ Days passed, and it was the day I would leave with Haven. I got dressed and took a good look at my figure through the mirror. Seriously, I wanted to look good to her and not some shits of my family. I needed to give her every reason to accept me eventually whenever I summoned the courage to confess my feelings for her. It would be easier if she had already fallen for me before that day came. I met Aron in his office when I was leaving, and we discussed certain things he needed to get together because I wouldn't be returning that night. My family's residence was far away, so taking the risk back that night wouldn't work since I was with a woman. And also, we had rivals looking out there, seeking a little opportunity to strike me down. I drove out in my car and reached the address we agreed to meet, and she stepped into the car. “I was expecting a bike. Didn't know you had a car too,” she commented and put on the seatbelt. “Your car's beautiful. I like it.” I chuckled, "I'm glad you do. It's a bit far and staying on the breeze a long time might not be too good for you.” “Who said so? You know how long I'd ridden my bike? I rode solo before, and I'm good,” she answered, looking mean and gesturing. She was so lovely. On our way, we chatted over several things, and I liked that we were getting along gradually. She looked so comfortable with me and told me some stories that her uncle had told her in the past, keeping the ride alive. We reached a point where I had to get us some drinks and snacks because we had only ridden half of the journey. “It's a very far destination. Are we gonna return tonight?” she asked, and I shook my head. “Then, where are we gonna stay?” “In a hotel. I will pay for two rooms.” I had to add that last part so she doesn't freak out. She nodded, “Nice idea, because it's risky returning tonight.” Thank God I thought that way, as if I knew she didn't like night journeys. When we finally arrived, my dad's butler led us into the main building where the dinner was taking place. It was kind of a banquet, because the sorts I was seeing on the table didn't look like a mere meal. My dad and his family came down soon, and we all surrounded the table. Alden wouldn't stop glancing at Haven, who didn't even give a f**k about his presence. And I also liked how Haven didn't care that she was new here and ate happily, tasting every dish before her while my stepmom stared at her. Soon, my dad piqued interest in her and asked, "Didn't you break up with Alden just recently? How are you already dating my other son? You must love my family so much that you don't want to leave.” Haven chuckled, “It's fate, you know,” she said and continued eating. “What fate are you talking about? You aren't dating Bruno, so tell the truth that you two are faking it.” Alden retorted, blood drained from his face. Haven glanced at him, with no atom of anger across her face. “Your dad didn't want us getting married, but you hid it from me and rather f****d my sister whom he chose, and even wanted an open relationship. So I broke up with you and moved on, met your brother who was a different version of you, and you're here getting steamed up over it.” “I'm not!” Alden shot back instantly. “I just hate that he wants to deceive my dad.” “How? Why would he deceive his dad? Do I look cheap like you? I'm dating your brother right now, so f**k off,” she growled at him and picked up her fork again. My stepmum was only watching. I bet she didn't see this part of her when she was supposed to be her daughter-in-law if she and Alden hadn't broken up. “Uhm, why do I feel Alden is right?” Dad said, and I wasn't shocked to hear that from him. “How do you prove that you two are really dating?” he asked Haven, and my heart dropped into my belly. This was going to be difficult.
