Chapter 13: The Wedding Plans

900 Words
The morning sun filtered through the sheer curtains of Jim’s home, casting golden streaks across the room. Hannah stretched lazily in bed, savoring the warmth of the moment. It had been weeks since Jim’s heartfelt proposal, and the reality of their engagement was beginning to settle in. Hannah glanced at the sparkling diamond ring on her finger, a symbol of love, trust, and a future she had never imagined for herself. A soft knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. “Come in,” she called. Maxine Smith, her soon-to-be mother-in-law, peeked inside, her face glowing with excitement. “Good morning, my dear. I hope you’re ready for a busy day.” Hannah sat up, rubbing her eyes. “A busy day?” Maxine stepped inside and sat beside her. “Wedding planning, sweetheart. It’s time to start making decisions.” Hannah’s heart fluttered at the thought. “Oh, wow. I guess I haven’t even begun to think about all the details.” Maxine chuckled. “That’s what I’m here for. But first, let’s have breakfast. Jim is already downstairs waiting for you.” Hannah dressed quickly and made her way to the dining room, where Jim was sipping his coffee, a newspaper spread out before him. He looked up and smiled as she entered. “Good morning, my love,” he said, pulling her into a quick kiss. She smiled against his lips. “Good morning.” Maxine clapped her hands together. “Alright, let’s talk wedding!” Jim groaned playfully. “Do I really have to be here for this?” Maxine rolled her eyes. “Yes, young man. This is your wedding too.” Hannah giggled, feeling a warmth in her chest. This was her family now. They were planning her wedding—not just any wedding, but the start of a new chapter with the man she loved. --- The next few days were a whirlwind of decisions. The guest list, the invitations, the venue—so many details to sort through. “I was thinking of an outdoor wedding,” Hannah suggested one evening as she and Jim sat by the fireplace. “Something intimate and surrounded by nature.” Jim nodded. “That sounds perfect. Maybe by the lake house?” Hannah’s eyes lit up. “That’s a wonderful idea.” Maxine, who had been listening in, clapped her hands together. “Then it’s settled. I’ll call the planners tomorrow to make the arrangements.” --- A few weeks later, Hannah found herself at a bridal boutique with Maxine and a few close friends. Rows of dresses lined the walls, each one more stunning than the last. She ran her fingers along the delicate fabrics, a mix of excitement and nervousness fluttering in her stomach. “Try this one,” Maxine urged, holding up an elegant lace gown. Hannah nodded and stepped into the dressing room. As she slipped into the dress and looked at herself in the mirror, she felt a lump form in her throat. She had never envisioned this moment, yet here she was, standing in a bridal gown, preparing to marry the man who had changed her life. She stepped out, and the room fell silent. “Oh, my,” Maxine whispered, tears forming in her eyes. “You look beautiful.” Hannah turned to see herself in the full-length mirror. The dress fit her perfectly, hugging her curves in all the right places. The lace detailing was exquisite, and the long train added an ethereal touch. “Do you like it?” Maxine asked gently. Hannah turned to her, eyes glistening. “I love it.” Maxine smiled warmly. “Then this is the one.” --- Back at home, Jim was sitting in his study when Hannah entered. He looked up, sensing her presence before she spoke. “How was dress shopping?” he asked, closing his book. Hannah grinned and twirled playfully. “I found the one.” Jim stood and pulled her into his arms. “I can’t wait to see you in it.” Hannah rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. “I can’t believe this is happening,” she murmured. “I never imagined I’d be here… planning a wedding, with someone who truly loves me.” Jim cupped her face, his gaze intense. “You deserve all of this and more, Hannah. I promise to spend every day making sure you never doubt that.” A tear slipped down her cheek, but this time, it wasn’t from pain—it was from happiness. “I love you,” she whispered. Jim kissed her forehead. “I love you more.” --- The days leading up to the wedding flew by in a blur. The venue was set, the invitations had been sent, and all that was left was to walk down the aisle. The night before the wedding, Hannah sat outside, staring at the stars. Jim found her there, wrapping his arms around her from behind. “Nervous?” he asked. “A little,” she admitted. “But mostly, I’m just… overwhelmed by how much my life has changed.” Jim kissed her shoulder. “It’s only going to get better, baby.” She turned in his arms, looking up at him. “Promise?” Jim smiled. “Forever.” ---- To be Continued
