Lin Yixun had never imagined she would be fired on her very first day at work, much less that the reason would be her bust, waist, and hip measurements.
If it had been anything else, perhaps she could have fought for the job. But her measurements were probably beyond changing. Worse still, they might even shrink.
What could she do except accept her fate?
Ouyang Hao had expected Lin Yixun to argue on her own behalf, or at least ask why she was being fired. Instead, she said nothing, put her mop in the storage room, and quietly left.
The woman might be as skinny as an African refugee, but at least she knew her place.
It seemed, however, that he had reached that conclusion a little too soon.
A week later, he once again saw someone busy in his kitchen. He assumed she was the new housekeeping assistant his manager had hired. But when he got a clear look at her, he frowned.
Wasn't this the woman he had fired last week?
“Why are you still here?”
Like a thief caught in the act, the woman lowered her head and shrank back a little, as though she could make herself invisible that way and keep him from seeing her.
“Hey, you. I'm talking to you! Are you mute?”
Lin Yixun slowly raised her eyes. “Miss Xiao told me to stay,” she said quietly.
His cousin?
Ouyang Hao turned away, pulled his phone from his pocket, and called Xiao Mu. “Sis, what's going on? Didn't I tell you to find me another housekeeper? How come I keep getting the same one?”
“Another one? My pampered prince, why don't you tell me how many housekeepers you've made me replace in the last six months? Either you don't like their figures or you think they're ugly. How am I supposed to find someone who suits you? Get this straight, Ouyang Hao: you're hiring a housekeeper, not going on a blind date!”
What the hell did a housekeeper need a pretty face and a good figure for?
Remembering his previous housekeeper only made Xiao Mu angrier. The woman had had both the looks and the figure, but apart from sleeping with Ouyang Hao and making the gossip columns, she had been utterly useless!
“I'm warning you, Ouyang Hao. If you bother me with this again, I won't clean up after you the next time you get into a scandal. And if anything unpleasant reaches my uncle's ears, you can deal with it yourself!”
The voice over the phone made Ouyang Hao's eardrums ache. Frowning, he held it a little farther away and put his acting skills to work. “Sis, what are you saying? The reception's bad here. I can't hear you. All right, I'm hanging up. Talk later.”
Even after hanging up, Ouyang Hao still felt rattled. His cousin brought up his old man at every opportunity. Was she ever going to let him live in peace?
He turned to go upstairs for another nap, only to discover that the culprit behind his scolding was still standing there. His face instantly darkened with fury.
“What are you standing around for? Aren't you the housekeeper? Get to work!”
Ouyang Hao's tone could hardly have been nastier. He was clearly in a foul mood. Unwilling to provoke him, Lin Yixun wisely retreated to the kitchen.
She had had to put up with Ouyang Hao's temper, but at least she had managed to keep her job.
Before long, however, Lin Yixun discovered that it wasn't over yet.
After cleaning the apartment, she quickly put her things away in the storage room and prepared to disappear. Ouyang Hao didn't want her around, and she had no wish to stay any longer herself.
She had just reached the head of the second-floor stairs when a crashing clatter came from the study. A moment later, Ouyang Hao emerged.
He walked over and jerked a finger behind him. “You. Clean up the study.”
Lin Yixun frowned slightly, puzzled. “Mr. Ouyang, I just cleaned it.”
“Did you?” Ouyang Hao arched a brow and bent down slightly, looking down at her. “Why does it look such a mess to me?”
He was a full head taller than she was. As he leaned down, his shadow swallowed her completely, making her feel an unspoken pressure.
Lin Yixun instinctively stepped back twice, then went around him toward the study. She distinctly remembered cleaning it. But the moment she reached the doorway, she stopped short.
She looked at the row of empty bookshelves against the opposite wall, then at the books strewn across the floor in great haphazard piles. Her heart sank.
Ouyang Hao was thoroughly pleased with her reaction. His lips curved as he strolled up behind her and lightly patted her shoulder.
“I'll leave these books to you. Oh, and if I remember correctly, there are more than twenty-three hundred of them. Every book has a number. Make sure you put them back neatly in numerical order.”
For good measure, he gave Lin Yixun a smug wink. Didn't she like staying here? Then she could stay to her heart's content.
