"Tell me everything you know about Ivan Keith," I demanded from Iris immediately after I sat down. It was morning. I hadn't even had my breakfast or my bath yet before calling Iris to meet me at a nearby restaurant. Luckily, she agreed.
I made sure to put on black shades and wear my hair down in hopes of appearing a bit unrecognizable to avoid attention from members of the Nightbloom pack. I wasn't sure if it worked as many of them still stared at me on the way.
"Hmm... first you threw wine on him and now you want to know everything about him? What exactly is going on?" Iris inquired.
"That whole incident was a mistake. He said something that annoyed me and that resulted in my actions." I started.
"I know there are so many rumours going around, and I sometimes fear of getting assaulted by some of your people."
"No, such wouldn't happen. Ivan specifically gave orders that no one should harm you ,so your safe." She replied which surprised me a bit.
"He did?"
"Yeah. Quite unlike him, you know. He hardly ever pays attention to women. The only woman he's been known to be close to is Alani. But, I saw the way he looked at you at the bar, and then, him giving orders that no one should bother you. It's clear you've caught his attention and he's caught yours too."
"Is there something going on between you two? I'm dying to know the whole story at this point." Iris persisted, but only one part of everything she said piqued my curiosity.
"Who's Alani?" I asked and she paused.
"Really, Lainey? Is that the only thing you picked out of everything I just told you?"
It wasn't like I cared if Ivan had a thing with someone else or anything. I was only weighing if it would be of any help to push him away from me."
"First off, there's nothing going on between us." I started, not wanting to tell the truth about I and Ivan's mate bond. I didn't want anyone to know about it.
"I only want to know more about him, as it appears I might have gotten myself into trouble. I want to know the type of person that he is."
"So there's no form of attraction between the both of you?" She asked and I immediately expressed disgust.
"Never. Nothing like that."
I could tell that I didn't quite convince her from the look on her face. Still, she didn't push more on the issue.
"Well, Ivan Keith is twenty five in age."
Three years older than I was.
"Handsome, tall, dreamy..."
"The basics are quite clear, Iris." I cut her off.
"Fine." She drawled.
"There's really not much to tell about him as he's mostly reserved. So, unless one is really close to him, it'll be hard to tell much deeper things about him. I can only tell you that he's a good leader and will become an even better alpha than his father is."
"Also, to cure your curiosity, I heard there's nothing serious going on between him and Alani. They're just friends. She comes to visit most times, but Ivan has not established any relationship other than friendship between them." She added.
"Well, I don't care what he has with her." I made known.
"Liar."
*********************
It was the third time my phone had beeped that evening. The third time Ivan had sent me a message and the third time I had left him unanswered.
"Venue: Urban Delight's restaurant. See you in two hours." His first message read, and two things bothered me. How he got my number and his audacity to think I'll just waltz over to meet him.
"It's bad manners to keep someone whom you had an agreement with, waiting." His second message read after the two hours had elapsed, and I still sat comfortably in my room, unmoved and occupied with my laptop. I was in search of a job vacancy and also typing out my résumé. After a four year study on international business and getting a bachelor's degree in it, I wasn't going to let it go to waste.
I had contemplated over it for the past two days and I finally decided I wanted nothing to do with Ivan. I couldn't risk putting my heart on the line again. I couldn't risk getting heartbroken, again.
For the stigma of 'being the girl whom embarrassed the alpha's son', I was sure it'll be forgotten over time. It's been two days since the incident happened, and the likelihood of me being summoned by the alpha, Theodore, was also getting low.
"You leave me with no choice. I'm coming over." His last message read.
"Only way I'll leave with you is if, of course, you drag me because I won't go willingly." I finally texted him back. My phone beeped almost immediately, signifying his reply.
"As you wish, Love." His message read. I dropped my phone back down and let out a frustrated sigh.
I returned back to my laptop, but it got harder for me to concentrate and so, I shut it closed. I let loose of the flash drive, which contained all my ideas for my dream business, and left it on the bed before putting on a t-shirt over my black shorts and heading to the sitting room.
I stood, expecting his car to drive in front of the house, but it didn't.
Not after thirty minutes, not after one hour.
"Is everything okay?" I heard my father's voice, which left me a bit startled.
"Yes, pa." I lied. He still didn't know anything about my situation with Ivan, and I hoped for it to remain that way. I wasn't sure how he'd react to it.
"I was just looking through the window." I said again.
"Good night." I didn't give him a chance to speak before disappearing into my room.
I pulled off the t-shirt once I entered my room and I noticed then that my window was opened.
Strange because I remembered closing it earlier on.
Something else caught my attention. My laptop was no longer where I left it. Also was the flash drive.
Worry kicked in immediately, and I turned all frantic in search for them.
"No, no, no. I left it here. What happened?" I questioned myself.
My phone rang in between and when I checked the caller's ID, it was unknown. I answered it, still.
"You look like you're about to turn your room upside down." The voice said and I recognized it to be Ivan's.
He could see me. I didn't know how that was possible until I thought of the open window. I did leave my room to the sitting room, expecting him to come in through the front porch, but what if he came through my room window instead? What if he's the one with my laptop?
"Where are my stuff?" I demanded, anger welling up within me, already.
"Safe with me.""
"How dare you?" I yelled through the phone.
"You dared me, love." Though I was screaming my lungs out, he sounded rather calm and that frustrated me more. A lot of important documents were saved on my laptop. All my business ideas. All my work. Everything was on the laptop and drive and he took both.
"Keep to our agreement and I'll give you your devices back."
It must have been some kind of sick joke, I thought.
"Also, you should close your window. I can see you from out here." He told me again, then it registered on my mind that I was only putting on shorts and a lace bra.
"I hate you."
"It'll wear off." He replied and I ended the call, throwing my phone on the bed in frustration. I wanted to scream so loud, but I couldn't as it would draw my father's attention.
I hated Ivan's arrogance. I hated how he thought he could have his way with me. I hated how helpless I felt in that situation.
I locked my window and when I tried to see if I could somehow access some of my documents through my phone, I saw that my access has been denied.
He had hacked into my laptop already and had somehow restricted my access to all my files.
'How was he doing all that and so fast too?' I wondered, feeling defeated.
