Chapter 6

1355 Words
Two days had passed since the dinner date, and I still felt every bit of disappointment in myself for acting the way I did when Ivan touched me. It was the first time he had done so, and it was quite unexpected. My reaction was unexpected too. I made known to him how much effect he could have on me. I made known to him that my words weren't corresponding with my actions. I said with my lips that I hated him, but my heart and body had a different say of their own. It scared me more than being bullied back in college did. My resolve was hanging on a thin line, one that could snap at any moment if I didn't do something about it. Love was something I wanted nothing to do with any longer because despite it had a pleasant onset with all the emotions and butterflies, it also had the ability to make or mar you. That was a risk I wasn't ready to take, especially with Ivan. We were of different statuses. His father, an alpha, and mine, a rogue. There was a huge likelihood that our union, if it were ever to happen, might not be accepted by his kind. Ivan was also a bundle of enigmas. Not much I knew about him, but hints of lethality sometimes crossed my mind when I saw him. Regardless of his charm and all, he looked like trouble, and I was going to do everything in my power to get away from him. It wasn't mandatory for werewolves to be with their mates. The connection only involved strong emotions that were hard to ignore. But the decision of being together remained for both parties to decide. They could come to an agreement of rejection which, in most cases, were only initiated by the males first. It was rare to find females who refused to yield to the bond and succeeded. I was on that path, and it was either I acted fast or put my heart at risk again. I made calls to different people whom I knew back in college and who were skilled in cybersecurity, hoping that they could help recover my files without me having the laptop back. Upon deep contemplation in the past two days, only one final course of action remained before me. I was going to leave town. With one last get-together happening among my college set, I had the perfect excuse to give to my father without having to bother him with the mess my life had quickly become. But, I couldn't leave without my laptop or without recovering my files, and it bothered me not having heard any progress from the cybersecurity specialists I contacted. My phone beeped, signifying a message, and when I checked who it was from, Ivan's name was displayed. "Come outside," the text read. I couldn't tell what he was up to, but I found no use in being defiant. Although I expected to see him, I met a bouquet of roses and a gift box at my front porch instead. "Beautiful flowers for someone as exquisite as you are," the note in the bouquet read, and it caused me to frown. He was trying to be romantic. I found it absurd that he thought any of that was going to woo me My phone rang, and I knew it was him calling without even having to look at the caller's ID. "What is it?" I asked, displeasure evident in my tone. I still stood outside, looking at the flowers and unsure of what to do with them. They were beautiful, no doubt. But, I felt a strong urge to throw them away just because they were from him. "Do you like my gifts?" He asked. His voice sounded lower and deeper than usual. "No," I replied, curtly. "You should open the box," he suggested, which got me thinking how he knew I hadn't done so yet. "Are you watching me?" "Maybe." "So you're a stalker now, huh?" "I can be anything for you, love." I hated his arrogance. The raw temerity he had to think he could have his way with me everytime. "Well, I don't need your gifts or anything from you." I said, my eyes searching the environment for any signs of him. "You sure about that? Because it appears you want to see me. I can come to you if you want." I let out a sarcastic laugh at his words. "The only time I'll take delight in seeing you is when you decide to return my devices and when you stay away from me." "Also, these gifts of yours will be going to the bin." I said just before ending the call. He was watching me. Even though I couldn't tell where he was, I needed to keep to my words still. Without checking the content of the box, I picked it up, alongside the flowers, and dumped them in the bin outside. I was determined on sending a message across that I wanted nothing from him. The lights in my room were off when I entered, which I found strange as I remembered leaving them on. Someone must have turned them off, and with my father not being in the house at that moment, I was left with only one conclusion. There was someone else in the house. A stream of anxiety flooded my senses at once. There was only one person who had proven to be able to sneak into my room, and with him being close by, I believed every possibility. "Quite stubborn, aren't you." A voice came up from behind me, frightening me to my bones. When the familiarity of the voice registered, I loosened up a bit. I turned around to get a look at his face, but strong arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me hard against him. The only space left between us was the little that I tried to create with my hands. It was dark, but I knew he had one of those smiles on his face. The one's that translated that he enjoyed getting a nervous reaction out of me. "A while earlier, you seemed to have a lot of things to say. Now you've grown quiet." I gulped down nothing before finally finding my voice. "Let go of me," I said, but his grip on my waist only tightened, eliciting sparks within me. "It's rude and not very gentlemanly to barge into my house and room without my consent." "I never said I was a gentleman." His breath fanned my face as he stared down at me. I eventually succeeded in forcing myself out of his arms, even though It was obvious it was only because he let me. I turned on the room's light and my vision became clearer. I was nervous, still. The idea that it was just us alone in a room got my heart racing faster than normal. "You know what I see in you?" I began, making my way further into the room. He leaned against the wall, his eyes fixed on my every move. "No. Enlighten me, please." "I see someone who is arrogant, prideful, and thinks he can have his way with everything just because he bears the title of an alpha. I see attitude, and I see a spoiled brat walking in his daddy's shadows." I wasn't sure where I got the confidence from, but I just kept on going. I noticed his demeanor change drastically. All the glow disappeared from his eyes and was replaced with a dark one. I had insulted him, and from the way things looked, it got to him. He walked up to me, and I got frightened at that moment, thinking about what he had in mind to do to me. I could feel the hair on my skin rise when he stopped in front of me, and my eyes looked everywhere else but at him. I expected him to say something. Anything. But he didn't, and before I could catch it, he was out, through the window.
