Chapter 8

"Do this one thing for me, Iris." I begged over the phone, still she hesitated. "It's very risky, Lainey. You're asking me to deceive Ivan. He's my superior. He's soon to be alpha." "I know, but it's not as hard as you're making it out to be. I'll act drunk, and all you have to do is call him and say I want to be with him at his house. It all has to happen before the meeting too." I explained to her. "Why? You know if you ask to meet with him, he'll agree right?" "Perhaps, but I don't want to give him the satisfaction of knowing that I want to meet with him while I'm sober. He might get suspicious and that can ruin my plan of getting my flash drive back. I need him to take me to his house and when he leaves for the meeting, I hope to search for the drive." I explained. After the cybersecurity specialists had proven unsuccessful with recovering my files back, I had one last plan. I was going to steal my flash drive back. It contained all the files the laptop had and would be easier to steal. Iris had mentioned that Ivan had a private house where he lived alone, and I guessed that was where my flash drive would be. He was also having a meeting with his pack that evening and I thought of it to be the perfect opportunity. "So are you finally accepting that Ivan might have his eyes on you? I mean, he stole your devices just so you could go out with him." She said and I sighed. I disliked having to tell her all so many details because of how she would taunt me with them, but I didn't have much of a choice. "Okay, fine. You're right. But I need to get my flash drive back, Iris. A lot of important files are on it. Please help me. I'll take all the blame if things go south. I promise." "Fine. I'll help you with it " "Thank you, thank you. We'll meet up at the bar." *************************** Iris stared at me in denial as she dialed Ivan's number. "Are you sure he will beli—" I placed my hand over her mouth fast to stop her from talking when I noticed Ivan had already picked the call. I gestured for her to relax and she noded before I removed my hand. "Hi, hi." She stuttered a bit. Ivan didn't say a word yet which made me compare to when he usually called me. He always had a lot to say. "I'm sorry if I disturbed you. I just had to. I'm at a bar now with Lainey and she's getting herself drunk. I tried to take her home, but she insists that she wants to be with you." I ruffled my hair again to make it appear messy and I gulped down another glass of alcohol to let the smell register on my breath. Then I started. "Ivannn." I drawled. "Is that Ivan..." I was surprised at how effortlessly I sounded drunk. So was Iris before I collected the phone from her. "Lainey?" I heard him say, concern etched in his voice. "Babe, Pls come pick me up. I don't like it here and I don't want to go home. I want to be with you." The line grew quiet after my words and I wondered if he was still on the call. After some long seconds, he cleared his throat. "Iris, are you still there?" He asked. "Yeah." Iris answered. "How drunk is she?" "Almost wasted." She replied, a smile plastered on her face. "Don't let her out of your sight. I'll be right there." "That was good." I told Iris after the call ended. "I never knew you were such an actress." "Me neither. I just had to make it all believable for him." I said, finishing another glass of alcohol. "He'll be here any minute, you should get on the table." "Right." I was wearing a red bodycon dress which got progressively shorter as I climbed the table and stood on it. Thankfully, there weren't many people in the bar. Just couples and they weren't paying much attention to what I was doing. Our table was by the window, so it was easy for me to see when Ivan's car drove in. I started with my show immediately. Iris pretended to try to get me off the table while I I escaped from her everytime, laughing and gulping more alcohol directly from the bottle. "Lainey, stop this and come down." Iris yelled. I could see how much she was trying not to break character and laugh. That made it all the more fun for me. I threw my hands up in the hair and made silly dances until Ivan reached where we were. The black long-sleeved shirt he was wearing molded perfectly to his frame. It had the first two buttons undone, indicating a subtle rebellion against formality. His black trousers completed the look. How could someone look so good effortlessly? I wondered. "Hey." I said and it came out more seductive than I intended. I still walked around on the table, almost staggering at one point because of my high heels. I wasn't used to walking in them. "You're about to fall. Come down." "I don't have to worry about that now that you're here. You'll catch me." "She's been like this for some minutes now. I can't get her to come down." Iris told him and his eyes never left mine. I moved closer to him on the table and squatted in front of him. "You'll catch me, right?" I asked, my hand going to the collar of his shirt and touching it lightly. He tried to hold my hand, but I pulled it away quickly before bursting into a fit of giggles. I got up to move away from him. However, he got hold of me and lifted me down in one swift move like I was lightweight. "Even while drunk, you're still so much to deal with." He said as he placed me on the chair. "Now that you've started it, you're going to have to carry me to the car too, because.... because I certainly won't be walking out of here." I told myself I was doing it all for an act. However, something in my heart doubted that.
