Christian Marlowe had three women in his life.
The first was Lily, Juliette's mother. She was beautiful and kind, the beloved daughter of the wealthiest businessman in the territory. Christian had pursued her relentlessly, drawn not only by her gentle nature but also by the vast fortune she would inherit. Lily, naive and trusting, believed his affection was genuine. She loved him deeply and dreamed of building a happy family together.
Those dreams died with her on the birthing bed.
Lily hemorrhaged after delivering Juliette. The healers worked frantically to save her, but there was too much blood. Too much damage. She held her newborn daughter for only a few minutes before slipping away forever.
It didn't take long before Christian took a second wife.
