I found myself in the hospital next, which was shocking to me because the last thing I remember was being home.
I pulled myself up when the curtain pulled open,
“You are awake” a nurse said as she walked towards me, she held a flashlight over my eyes.
“What happened?” I asked.
“You fell and hit your head” she answered.
Everything came rushing to me in an instant, panic engulfed my body so quick that my lips quivered as they spoke.
“What about my mother? Is she okay?” I asked.
Her face dropped when she looked back at me,
“I’m very sorry but she passed away, there was nothing we could do to save her” she informed me and I felt my heart stopped, I let out a silent whimper as my hands grabbed the sheets.
“Are you okay?” She asked.
“Where is she?” I asked.
Tear began falling from my eyes as I realized that I wasn’t able to save her, despite my efforts.
I had failed her, I had failed the one person that was by my side.
I was led to the morgue to identify the body, a white garment was over her body.
I slowly pulled it off, desperately wishing that it wouldn’t be her and that this was all a dream.
But it wasn’t a dream, it was all real.
Once again I had no strength in me as I fell to the ground, there was nothing I could do to stop the tears, I had now lost everyone that mattered in my life.
I held her cold hands against mine, wishing I could have been able to stop this, wishing there was something I could have done.
I should have gotten home faster, I shouldn’t have left her alone in the first place.
This is all my fault.
I sat there for what seems like an hour, when I caught glimpse of a shadow by the door, it looked familiar,
“Dad?” I called as I recognized him.
He stared at me pitifully then turned away to leave.
“Dad, wait” I rose to my feet as I chased after him.
“Dad, wait up” I pleaded as I hastened my pace, yet I couldn’t reach him.
Then he finally stopped, he looked at me and then smiled stretching his hands to me.
I walked towards him, white lights flashing against my eyes, but I didn’t want it to stop me, there was so much noise around me but that didn’t scare me at all, what scared me was that I might lose him and never get the chance to see him again.
I got so close that I could almost touch his hand when a force knocked me over, I was thrown in the air, my body floating until it falls on a hard surface and I come rolling down.
The screeching sound of a car could be heard as I laid on the cold floor,
“Dad” I callled out but there was no sign of him, he was gone.
Something cold trickled down my face, almost blinding my vision, until everything went black.
***
It’s been five years since that incident.
I have been locked up in this place for five years with no escape or a way out, I don’t even know how I ended up here in the first place, but today, I am getting discharged.
“How do you feel about leaving?” The nurse asked me.
When she had announced to me last week that I would be discharged, I didnt know how to feel, I wondered if I should be relived that I would be going back into the real world or I should just stay here and continue to act like I didn’t exist.
I know it wouldn’t seem fair to my parents after what they had been through, it wouldn’t seem fair to me to stay here too
My first year in here was hell, I had not only attempted to kill myself on several occasions but I also wanted to burn this place to the ground.
So I was confined to my quarters, I wasn’t allowed out until they were certain I was docile, and it took a huge amount of drugs to actually keep me docile.
By my second and third year here, I began to wonder what I had done wrong, who I may have offended to make my life turn into this huge mess.
And in the final year, all I could think about was Revenge, to find the person who did this to me and make them pay for everything.
“I don’t know how to feel” I finally responded to her and she smiled.
“These are your medications and you are expected to come back monthly for check up, do you think you can do that for me?”
“I can try” i responded.
“Well, that is enough for me” she said with high spirits.
The steel doors were opened and I was finally let out this hell hole of a hospital,
I walked out the gates towards the nearest thrash, where I threw every damn thing in there.
A month has passed and I had changed my identity and started a new life, I began investigating my father’s death and I happen to come across the woman who had accused him of r**e.
We were to meet at a cafe and she was already late.
“I’m sorry I’m late” she said as she took her seat in front of me, snapping roughly a gum in her mouth.
A mere look at her and I wouldn’t believe a damn word that comes out of her mouth.
“It’s fine, my name is Rose, I’m a scout for Hb agency,” I easily introduced myself, pushing a card on the table, “we are looking for new faces to join our agency, and you seem like the right person we need” I added.
It was all a lie, I wasn’t part of an entertainment company, but it was a much better option than acting like a reporter, which would certainly raise her suspicions.
She looked excited as I said that, thinking this must have been a new break for her.
After accusing my father of r**e, her career went downhill and she was reduced to being an hostess in a dive bar.
She would do anything to climb on the social ladder.
“Hello, I’m Divine, nice to meet you” she introduced herself calmly.
“Before we go into details, I would like to make sure that you have a clean profile, do you by any chance know this man?” I slid a picture in front of her.
She looked at him closely then slowly shook her head,
“I have no idea who that is” she stated.
I studied her face very well, just to certain that she was telling me the truth.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I don’t know him” she replied.
I could tell she was telling the truth now, because what she told five years ago was all a lie.
The picture I had just showed her, was a picture of my father, the same man who she claimed had r***d her and sexually harassed her.
How could she have forgotten the face of her r****t.
“Is he the CEO?” She requested oblivious.
I almost burst out laughing.
“How about this?”
I pulled out a news article and a video where she had confessed that my father touched her, once she saw herself, she realized that she had been busted.
“This… How did you?” She stammered hard.
“My agency is capable of making this scandal all go away, give you a clean slate, but the fact that you just lied to me, I see no reason to want to work with you.” I said and rose to my feet.
That was enough to make her break, realizing that she could have everything she had ever dreamed off, but I could take away in a second.
She would be willing to do anything.
“It’s all her fault” she screamed as she held my hand.
I turned back to her, wondering who the hell she was talking about, that’s when I found her pointing at a woman on the Tv Screen.
It was Lena Hunter, the very person who had taken my role five years ago.
The very role that skyrocketed her to success.
“She paid me to make false accusations against him, I didn’t want to do it but she forced me to” she blurted out.
I focused my gaze on the screen, Lena stood in front of a huge crowd with a smile on her face, she had just won best actress for the third consecutive time.
She was overwhelmed by the love everyone was giving her.
I tilted my head in delight, I had finally found my culprit,
“Found you” I said as I smirked at the screen.
From now henceforth, her life is going to be a living hell all because of me.
“You are still going to sign me right?” Divine asked, almost on her knees.
“Wait for my call” I informed her, knowing damn well that would be the last time she would ever see me.
