GARRETT POV The moment the wooden sign for SEELEY LAKE appeared on the side of the road, half buried in snow and tilted slightly like winter had been leaning on it for months, Amaranta’s hand tightened in mine. It wasn’t dramatic. But I felt every little shift in her fingers, every subtle tension running through the bones of her hand like electricity, and the way she stared out the windshield told me she had just stepped into a memory she wasn’t sure she wanted to revisit.
