AGONY OF CHIOMA

Episode 1

I couldn’t believe my ears when my dad said I was going to the village to continue my education, it was unlike my dad.

“Chief!!!! For God sake, why will David go to the village to continue his education” my mum exclaimed

“dad, why will I go to the village, check it out I have no class in the village” I said firmly

“you all know that I am a titled man, Omeluora one of itolu Kingdom and I really love my tradition and culture. With the kind of lifestyle David is living he doesn’t know anything about tradition and culture and I will like him to belong, understand and know his tradition who knows he may end up being a titled man like his father” chief omeluora said as he laughed in an elderly manner

“dad what you are saying is meaningless, I don’t f-----g wanna belong to any tradition” David fired

“you must be stupid” chief said angrily

“chief how do you expect him to cope with things there, you know he isn’t used to local and unpleasant environments” my mum said trying to convince Chief

''woman you don’t have anything to worry about, he is staying with my mother, I will get him a driver and all that he needs, with the best school''

“well if you say so, I just hope he copes”

'so I will now be left alone" my younger sister cut in

"not at all my angel, here is lively beside I promise to take you to see him once in two weeks" my dad said

“OKAY.. am OK with that” Katy my younger sister replied as she continued with her phone

I looked at every one in the living room as they all succumbed to my dad’s decision, I hissed and headed for my room.

As soon as I got to my room, I connected my head phone to my iPhone 6 and started playing my favorite song by NF WHY to cool off my anger….

The next day was a Thursday, I woke up from my soft bed, muttered some prayers that I never forget to do every morning even though am an arrogant person, and headed to the restroom.

I washed my face and brushed my teeth before relaxing on my bed to play music (am a music lover).

I was still listening to my cool music when a knock landed on my door…

“come in” I said removing my head set

“food is ready” Dorothy our cook informed

“I will be there shortly” I muttered.

I was about living the bed when a call came into my phone oh it was Favour my one and only girlfriend. Her family and mine are really close

“good morning sunshine”

“good morning David, how was your night” an angelic voice asked

“went well and yours?”

“splendid”

“that’s good”

“David are you coming to school tomorrow, we were asked to come copy our scheme”

I sighed before answering her

“I don’t think am resuming with you guys”

“David are you leaving the school for real”

“yea, my dad wants me to school in the village”

''what village??? David stop kidding, this isn’t April 1st” Favour said laughing loud

“am serious, you can come over today so we would discuss things”

“sure I will by noon”

“bye angel”

“bye love”

The line went off. I left my room straight to the dining

“where is David” I over heard my dad..

“am here” I said as I sat on my chair, they were almost done with theirs

“where have you been” my mum asked

“I was busy upstairs sorting something”

“eat your food” my mum said

My dad was fully dressed in his native attire ,an ogbu agu top, a black trouser with a red cap and his beeds, he was ready for work (that’s his normal way of dressing to work or he wears a senator attire)

“David I want to inform you that you are living for Enugu tomorrow morning, so you could know your new school and collect your necessary materials to resume school on Monday”

“OK” I said in a low tone “dad by the way what’s the name of this new school”

“when you get there, you will know” he took his briefcase and left the dining

I looked at him but was just silent as many things were running in my mind. Minutes later I was the only one left in the dining as I quickly rushed my tea, bread and sandwich.

FEW HOURS LATER

“ding dong” the door bell alarmed

I went to check who it was and it was no other person than Favour

“Favour!!”

“David”

“you look gorgeous”

“thanks dear”

She was putting on a dark blue gown at her knee level with a silver shoe, silver Michael kors Bag and a silver head band and the enchanting perfume she was putting on.

“how is Katy”

“oh she is fine though she's not at home, she went out with mum”

“so you are home alone”

“that’s it”

“welcome aunty Favour, what would you like to take??” Funke our maid asked

“oh nothing, am OK”

“are you sure” I asked

“yes"

" OK let’s go to my room”

“so you are no longer coming to Lambert International School”

“No as a matter of fact things are beyond me, am even living for Enugu tomorrow morning and today will be the last day I will see you till further notice”

“why is your dad doing this??”

“I don’t know”

The room was silent for some minutes as I saw tears rolling down her cheek, I held her wiped off her tears and kissed her on her forehead

“I will really miss you” she said

“same here, I will over miss you”

“I want to ask you for a favor” she said suddenly

“what?? Favor!!”

“Promise me you won’t leave me for any village girl” Favour said looking into my eyes

“(Smiling) why would I, am I mad!!. Favour you are the only girl I love”

“that’s why I love you David”

We kept looking at each other, before I knew it we were already kissing, in less than few minutes we were unclad as we made love like never before.

NEXT DAY

''Time check'' 10:43am

I hugged my mum tightly as she was already missing me..

“David I miss you so much, I promise to see you soon” she said pecking me

I hugged my sister as tears were forming in her eyes..

“stop crying Katy, we would see soon”

I bade them good bye as I was already missing home. Sanusi our driver helped me park my luggage into the car while we left for the domestic airport.

Thirty minutes later we arrived the airport after so much questioning from the check desk we finally boarded and about an hour later I was at enugu…

I called my dad and informed him that I was already at Enugu and he said that my unknown cousin is coming to take me. I was still waiting patiently sipping my Coke when a call came in

“hello who is this” I asked

"I'm Emeka your cousin am already at the airport, where are you??” he asked in a bass voice

I thought I had bass oo but this one pass me

“are you the one coming to take me”

“yes, your dad sent me”

“OK am inside the airport arrival”

“OK” he said and hanged up

Minutes later I saw a guy, he was not that huge, he was a bit taller than I am and dark in complexion

“are you David??” The person asked

“yea Emeka”

“yea.. Wow this is you, I never knew you were this big”

“yea, you are my only cousin I haven’t seen tho my dad told me something about you”

“nice David, welcome to Enugu the rocking town”

I was a bit pissed off but I already liked the guy, he was jovial, handsome, good looking and smart he didn’t look like all this village guys,

“thanks” I said looking around the airport

He helped me with some of my luggage as we left the airport, he stopped a cab

“itolu Christ the savior road” emeka said

“the two of you”

“yes”

“3000 thousand naira”(Nigeria currency)

We parked the luggage into the cab and zoomed off

45 minutes later

“this itolu is far” I said while he smiled

“it’s just an hour and forty five minutes from here”

“you enjoy long distance journey”?

“not really”

“OK.. Are you still in secondary school” I asked him

“yea ss2”

Wow he was in the same class with me I thought

“wow same class”

“yea chief told me”

“did he tell you the name of my school??” I asked furious as he looked at me.

“didn’t he tell you??”

“No not at all”

“we are now in same school, almond school of Science (ass)

“wow… That’s your school, hope the school is very conducive”

“you will like it, trust me”

“(looking at him) if you say so”

“tomorrow we would go there”

Some minutes after, we arrived at my grandma compound, I could remember it vividly because I stayed here for a Christmas holiday seven years.

We alighted as I brought out all the luggage while Emeka went inside to call grandma..

“neto chukwu, Neto chukwu” my grandmother shouted as she came out to hug me.

I can’t remember when last I was called with that name or use the name, I think junior waec though it’s my native name

“good afternoon grandma” I greeted as I hugged her

“how are you my son”

“am fine mama”

“welcome to your house”

Two girls who looked like maid came and carried my bags inside..

“David this is your driver, his name is Larry he will be in charge of taking you anywhere, he is my guy” emeka said

“that’s good!! welcome Larry”

“welcome sir” Larry said

“remove the sir and call me David”

“OK David”

“funny guys”

“but how will I have a driver without car??”

“You don’t need to worry the three of us will be going to a near by village to get your car then from there we head to school”

“hmm OK”

“you people should come inside, food is ready” granny said while we all went inside.

Her chef prepared egusi soup with fufu ''(Native Food)" but I opted for eba since that’s what am use to. We had eaten half way when I received an alert of one fifty thousand transfer, I knew it was my dad but I just continued with my food….

We were done with the food, we thanked mama for the meal while larry, emeka and I went to the balcony to relax…

“hope you enjoyed the meal” emeka asked

“it was good and tasty” I replied

“nice, native food is always awesome” Larry added

“yea it is, I pray I get adapted to it”

“sure you will city boy” emeka said while we all laughed.

I was already getting fund of them, thank God I have someone like emeka to keep me company.

“tell us, how is city” Larry asked

“well City is always a city, it’s fun, but very frustrating at times”

I was interrupted by my father’s call

“good afternoon dad” I greeted

“afternoon son, how are you doing??”

“hmm doing good, just finished eating now”

“you see you are already enjoying the village”

“that’s not true, village is not fun at all”

“keep that to yourself. Hope you have seen your cousin brother emeka”

“yea emeka is a funny and lively guy”

“I know you will like him. Emeka is a good boy, he would help you with school, any activities, just make sure you guys don’t keep late at night”

“OK dad, extend my greetings to mum and katy”

“I will son, hope you have seen your driver”

“yes dad, he is also cool”

“good..be obedient to your grand mum and take good care of her”

“no problems dad”

“bye for now”

The line went off and we continued our discussion..

“My dad really trust you emeka”

“chief trust me, I will ever be loyal to him, he really helped me when my mum his sister died”

“wow that’s good”

Hours later it was already evening as I jumped up from the bed..

, “gosh I have been sleeping”

I stood up and went to the sitting room but no one was there. I went to the balcony and saw emeka reading.

“Hey emeka”

“ahh David you've woken up??”

“yea, I didn’t even know when I felt asleep”

“you have passed through so many journey today, so you need rest”

“that’s true, what are you reading??” I asked

“physics”

“why reading when school hasn’t started”

“just preparing my self”

“hmm good for you” I said while he looked at me and continued

I brought out my phone, and saw 21 missed calls

10 from my mum

5 from Favour

2 from katy

2 from Victor (my best friend)

1 from my biology teacher

1 from Loretta

“Were do I start from” I asked no one in particular

I called my mum immediately, spoke with her and Katy for about twenty minutes before calling Favour, Loretta,victor and my biology teacher. They will all miss me so much..

“So you have a girlfriend” emeka asked as soon as I dropped the call

“(Stammering) yes,is anything wrong with that”

“No nothing”

“Don’t you have a girlfriend??”

“(Smiling) I had but she broke up with me”

“Hmmm thats bad what happened”

We continued our gist till it was dark before emeka put on the generator then we went inside. After watching lots of movie, emeka and I took our bath abd later retired to our bed by 11pm….

I was woken up by the heavy ray of sunlight that entered our room .

“Arrrhhhh” I was yawning and stretching my body

I got up from bed prayed , picked up my phone, it was after 8am, so I went to the sitting room where I saw my grand mum reading Bible

“Good morning mama”

“Oo nwam e bo na chi(my son have you waken)

I didn’t understand like that

“Mama am fine” I replied when I heard someone laughing at me from behind

“She said are you awake not how are you” it was emeka

“Oh Mama I have woken how was your night?”

“Fine fine” she replied

“David you are really funny oo ,come let’s go clean up the compound” emeka said holding me

“Easy ooo ima na o kahaka ( he is not strong)” mama shouted

Emeka gave me a very long broom in sweeping while he was with his own. He started sweeping while I joined him

“David so you don’t understand Igbo”(Tribal language)

“Hmmm not really, I do hear some”

“Guy you need to learn ooo”

“Will you teach me”

“Sure when we are free I will”

Emeka noticed I wasn’t doing the sweeping well

“David so you also don’t know how to sweep”

“I know how to sweep just that..”

I was trying to sweep very well

“Arrrrr” the broom Pierce my hand.

“Sorry” emeka said collecting the broom from me as blood gushed out of my hand

“Is this what you use to sweep, this isn't a broom but a weapon” I fired

“Hahaha” he laughed “David that’s enough go to the tap, wash your hand and rest I will finish the sweeping”

In less than 15 minutes emeka was done with the sweeping as we went to prepare for our outing. One hour after we were ready Larry showed up

“guy we have been waiting for you”

“Sorry, I had something to run through this morning”

“fine can we go now??” I asked

“sure”

We left the compound as we boarded a taxi to nsukka…

Time check==2::45pm

Finally we were back from nsukka with my brand new Honda pilot, nsukka is really far from our village but at least we came back on time. We alighted from the Honda pilot in front of almond school of Science, the buildings was really big.

Larry was still in the vehicle while emeka and I entered the school going to the admin block..

“come in” a voice said from inside

We entered as we were still standing before she left her laptop and faced us..

“good afternoon” we greeted

“afternoon, emeka how may I help the both of you” she said in an offensive manner

“this is David, chief Madu omeluora one of itolu”

“ohhh.. Is this David?”

“yes” I replied

“have your seat, why have you been standing”

“it’s nothing Ma” I said smiling

“am so sorry, I have spoken with Chief, am the principal of almond school of science”

.

Immediately she brought out two big nylon bag the school design and label was on it..

“David this bag contains your 3 pairs of uniform, 2 sport wears, your practical wears” she said pointing at the first bag

“the second bag contains your exercise books and some relevant textbooks you will be needing”

“thanks” I said pulling the bags towards me when we suddenly heard a knock

“come in” the principal said

I turned back to see two angels entered the office “I gasped”…

good afternoon” they both greeted

“David are you alright”

“oh yeah am OK” I came back to my senses

“these are my daughters Gift and Jannifer , Gift here is your class mate and Jannifer is in ss1 anything you need to understand or know, you can count on Gift”

“oh no problem” I said stretching out my hand for a handshake

“you are welcome” she said collecting my hand after which I shook her sister too

“I hope you are not like your cousin” the principal said referring to me

“(smile) you can count on me” I said still using my evil microscopic eyes to peruse if I could see their internal anatomy

“ma we will be on our way now,” emeka said tapping me

“no problem”

“see you on monday” Gift said waving at me

We left the office and joined Larry as we kept the bags in the booth

“guy so you didn’t tell me angels attends this school”

“meaning??” emeka asked pretending as if he didn’t understand what I was saying

“you didn’t see the principals daughter Gift and Jannifer”

“just remove your eyes from those bae, they are my girls” emeka fired angrily

"wait emeka I thought you don’t do girls stuff”

“who said that!! you can face other girls but stay off those ones and mind you forget all those things the principal said earlier ..if you mess with them you will know my wrath ”
