Survival Of The Fittest

2004 Words
ALPHA JACE SLAVO He was doomed. There were no doubts about that. The joy I felt when I pulled him into the portal, Alison had almost died to open, was indescribable. Didn’t he say he would love to see me try to detach his head from his body with my bare hands? Dave, the hunter, was about to get what he desired. I guessed the saying, “Be careful what you wish for, would make sense to him soon.” “Would you let me kill him? He almost killed Ariana and...” “Shut up, Lev! I get to kill him for hurting me with those f*****g needles and almost sabotaging our way home. Not everything concerns the weak mate that almost abandoned us at our weakest point.” I uttered through the mind link with my wolf as the portal wooshed around my body. I wasn't conscious of anyone else within the portal, but my handheld Ariana as if my whole life depended on her presence. Well, it does rely on her but not exactly. “Cut the poor girl some slack, Jace. We scared the hell out of her, and you threatened her family's lives. Stop acting as if you gave her a choice and chance to trust you.” My wolf countered, groaning in my mind. I didn't care about Ariana's feelings as long as I got what I wanted above everything from her. There was no escaping when we reached the dark lands. My pack is built to camp and make anyöne’s escape plan ineffective. “Let's see if you will maintain the same energy when Ariana ages. Let's see if you would better keep your emotions in check around her when you can finally sense that she is our true mate.” Lev didn't stop bugging me, and I couldn't block him off because my powers were limited within the portal. Alison was the one in control, and I was worried that she wouldn’t be able to get us home due to her injury. Alison was rewarded for all of her effort on this trip and for all she had been doing for The Dark Moon Pack and me. She faced death countless times because of me and Ariana's carelessness. “Have you forgotten that Alison can heal herself, but Ariana, who sustained injury from the fire outbreak, can't help? Have you thought of asking her if she is still in pain?” My wolf chipped into my mind. He must have forgotten that Alison risked our lives to heal Ariana in the hallway. I couldn’t wait to leave this portal so I could have control over my mind once again and satisfy my hunger for a specific Hunter blood. It was annoying that I had to know his name. I preferred killing people whose names I didn't know. Their offense mattered, and this young hunter had committed much crime. I still have one of his poisonous needles stuck in my chest. I didn't remove the last one. After all, it was attached to the most painful part of my body because I had a scar that wasn't a scar. After all, it was still as sad as I could remember. Enzo might beat me to killing the hunter as soon as we land. My Beta wouldn’t even wait to hear what he did before taking Dave’s life, just like Dave would have done with any of my Kind. It was survival of the fittest. Hunters don't always return home with a kill, and sometimes they might never return. The battle between hunters and werewolves was no child’s play, and both sides suffered tremendous casualties. Kill first, or get killed. That has been the code since I can remember. When I heard Alison's voice again, I knew we were about to hit land. Her magical Portal would have been the best way to travel if the landing part wasn't so unfriendly. I had experienced this countless times, and I could boldly tell anyone that it was equivalent to a plane crash situation. The portal was about to crash, and everyone within it would hit. My hold on Ariana was slipping as I instinctively pulled her against the non-scarred side of my chest as I prepared my mind for the brutal crash that was sure to come soon. I made sure Ariana wasn't touching my chest by pinning her hands behind her back and holding them in place with one of mine. My second hand held her back firmly so she wouldn't break a bone or all of her weak bones when we eventually crashed. “Welcome home, Alpha Jace,” Alison said, and I didn't miss the evil smirk on her face just as I felt myself falling while she floated smoothly like the witch she was. Alison claimed that she didn’t have the power to stop the occupant of her portals from crashing after the portal disappeared, but why do I have the feeling that my trusted witch had tricked me? “Damn you, Alison!” I cursed out loud, and I heard her giggling like a freaking witch. Thankfully the crash wasn’t hard for me because I somehow fell slowly, and I was able to land on my feet. It was strange, but I assumed Alison used magic to help me. The story was different for the hunter, though. He fell fast and crashed into branches of trees on his way down. I didn't know when I carried Ariana in the famous bridal style that I have seen ladies cooed about. It was because of the baby I wanted from her. Nothing more. I placed my half-brid mate's feet on the ground, detaching her shaking fingers from my shoulders, so much for holding her hands behind her so she wouldn't touch me. “Thank you for coming along, dimwit. I hope you are ready to be headless.” I said to the hunter, who was sitting weakly against the stone he crashed on. I left Ariana when she was still trying to catch her breath as I looked around to know where we were. A quick sniff was all it took for me to realize that we were within the grove that was behind my home. The Dark Palace. I didn't give my home that name. My pack members who had been opportune to enter my home did, and the term spread through the pack and stuck with my home over the years. I didn’t border to condemn the name because I liked it. Also, it befitted my home. I knocked the hunter out with one punch before he could respond, and Alison lifted him with her spells, and he floated, following us as I walked to the civilized area of my pack. I had taken more steps than I could remember when I perceived that Ariana wasn't walking with Alison and me. “Do you need to be dragged before you come with me, or are you planning to escape again.” “Alpha” Alison murmured, looking behind us, but I kept talking. I was sure nothing could go wrong now that we had arrived in the dark land. “My men are everywhere. You can't escape, but you can get killed.” “Alpha! She has collapsed!” Alison shouted. My wolf became alert as I pivoted around to see my fated mate on the fresh green grass that had covered the entire ground of the grove. I found myself rushing back to Ariana even though all I wanted to be doing at the moment was torturing the unconscious hunter. “s**t! The moon goddess must be laughing at me right now.” I lamented, referring to the weakness that my life had been. She might not last a week in my pack, and I didn't even know when her birthday was so I could have s*x with her and get the process going before she died. And he killed her after her hair was pulled out of her weak body. “You wouldn't dare!” Or not. Lev would never allow that. Alison assured me that Ariana was just tired. My pack witch muttered words that made my weak mate return to her senses. Ariana puffed, and Alison was kind enough to help her to her feet while I watched them both. “Are you alright, Ariana?” Alison asked kindly, and Ariana nodded. I could tell my fated mate wasn't alright, but I couldn't care about her then. I wanted to get to the part where I would end the hunter’s life. Alison offered to help me with the last poisonous needle in my chest, and I accepted without thinking twice. It was uncomfortable to have it on my painful spot. I decided I didn't have to take the hunter to the judging arena, so I mindlink Enzo. “Bring men to the grove behind the Dark Palace,” I told my Beta, who was overly excited that I was back in the pack, but his excitement died when I told him about the hunter and what had happened earlier. “Does he know who you are? I'm f*****g killing him.” “No, Enzo. I will do the killing right here in the grove. Pack members don't have to know that a hunter is within the dark lands.” I said to my Beta as Alison cast a spell to numb my chest area so she could pull the needle out and ease my pain. My Beta grumbled before m acknowledging my words. The link was off, and I assumed that Enzo was working on getting everything I needed to kill the hunter. Little did my Beta know I had promised to rip the hunter’s head off with my bare hands. “Ahh.” I cried out when Alison finally released me from her spell. The punctured spot on my scar absorbed the pain caused by the hunter’s needle, and it spread through the entire injury, making me weak. I could only imagine what would have happened to Ariana if three needles the hunter shot at her had punctured her skin before I took the hit. She would die on the spot. And my trip would have been fruitless, and my legacy would die with me. “Who's the weak one now?” Ariana had the gut to whisper those words to herself. She must have thought I couldn't hear her, but my sensitive ears made that cake crunch. I would have reprimanded my fated half-bad for saying that, but Enzo's arrival made me forget about Ariana. “Alpha!” “Welcome back, Alpha Jace!” My Beta and the five warriors he brought with him said in unison as they greeted me. They all squatted, kneeling to show their respect to their Alpha—the notorious Alpha of the Dark Moon Park. That was me, and I was back home, where I belonged. I left for just three days, but I missed the feeling of being at home. “You may rise, Warriors.” I ordered, and Alison helped me up. She was helping a lot, and I needed to reward her immediately. But before that, I had a hunter to kill. “Wake him up and tie him to that tree!” I commanded my men, and two of them reacted immediately. Enzo was glaring at Ariana and the hunter with his dark orbs that appeared lifeless when anyone looked into them. “What are we going to do about the Half-bird, Alpha? I doubt you need her because I don't believe in that damn curse.” My Beta said to me. Lev was getting worked up, but I stayed calm because acting up wouldn't help me decide what to do. “Leave that to later. I have a young brat to kill, and I don't need those weapons you bought.” I said to my Beta as I flexed my fingers. They were my greatest weapon anyways.
