JACE SLAVO
She was riddled, and I was pleased. I sensed her dilemma as her beau-f**k it! I meant her eyes darted between me and her sister. I also felt the guy’s anxiety. They didn't want to cause trouble, all they wanted was to get what they owned and move on, but I have also learned that these kinds of people are the most dangerous.
It doesn't matter if it was a werewolf or a vampire, or a human. Any being that couldn't decide during a dangerous situation was as complex as the situation.
But I was delighted that this happened when I presented my proposal to my destined mate, and right then, she was where I wanted her to be.
“Do we have to call the police?”
The human dump owner of the store asked, pretending to be capable of inflicting harm on Ariana and her sister. Well, the duo believed it.
“Ariana! Say something, please. I know I acted selfish earlier, but you can't let them call the police!”
Kara spoke up again. She and my mate might be biological siblings, but they were different in all aspects, and if the moon goddess had given me a chance to pick my mate, I probably would have picked Kara rather than Ariana. Kara was younger, but her curves were prominent already, and who doesn't like pretty women? I was stuck with Ariana.
Only death can part us, and it might happen soon.
“I want to help, but you know I don't have money, Kara.”
Ariana was saddened as she sadly announced her helplessness after the store owner named the accumulated price of all items Kara had stolen from their store.
I smirked again, and Ariana saw it. That wasn't a lot of money to me. It wasn't up to the price of my shoe.
“Isn't this the time to put your proposal on her table again? I don't know why you are standing here and making her more nervous.” Lev let out, invading my mind.
“Keep shut!” I put up the wall, blocking him out again, but I walked closer to the scene standing side by side with my human mate.
“I can help you if you say the word.”
As much as I hated being at anyone's mercy, I had no choice but to lower my standard if I wanted to get my heir. The goal was to get her pregnant, not to spend the rest of my life with her. A weak hybrid!
“Who are you?”
It wasn't Ariana that asked me this time. It was her curious sister. I was furious again because someone as weak as her wouldn't have the chance to talk to me. A human teenager was questioning a whole me, the Alpha of a leading pack.
I swallowed the harsh words at the tip of my tongue and inhaled a calming breath before responding because I knew if I could win Kara over, I would get Ariana in no time.
“I’m your sister’s soulmate.”
I declared, using the human term that meant the same as mates. I told the guys to release her and that I would settle the bills if my soulmate said the word.
“You had a boyfriend all this while? He looks rich. Tell him to help, Ari.”
Kara mumbled to her sister, but I heard it regardless, perks of being a strong Alpha. Ariana and Kara argued for some minutes as Kara began to pressure her sister while I waited impatiently for my mate's final decision.
It was now or never.
“I really can't ask him to help. He wants something I can't give him in return for whatever help he renders.”
Ariana tried to explain to her sister, but thankfully, the little girl wasn't ready to listen to her. The store owner was getting as impatient as I was, but mine was extreme. I couldn't be seen comparing myself to humans, no matter the condition.
“You are wasting our precious time!”
The store owner shouted at the sisters, and they both flinched and ended their bickering. Ariana looked at me, and if it wasn't for my natural hate for her kind and my rational mind, I would have pulled her into my arms and whispered sweet nonsense to her.
“I see I'm not needed here. Goodbye!”
I turned away, walking towards my rented bike and threatening my destined mate. Confusion and defeat rolled off her massively, and I breathed it in contentedly.
“I agree to your terms. Please save my sister.” Finally, she called out to me, and for selfish reasons, I turned back to her and sealed the deal. I paid the store owner immediately, gave Kara some cash, and moved on to the next step.
“You have to go with me now.”
I told Ariana after she ensured her sister was back in their not-so-safe house. She fiddled with the hem of her soft top, and I saw her biting her inner cheeks. She thought she had made the wrong choice, and I couldn't agree more. Her life was about to change.
“I made a terrible mistake, and I'm not ready for the consequences that come with it. Can I at least know who you are?”
Ariana stared into my eyes as she asked, and I retorted, telling her I couldn't tell her who I was until she signed some paperwork. She was suspicious of me, and I don't blame her because she should be.
I could control myself and my wolf to this length because Alison had placed an enchantment on me to weaken my abilities so we wouldn't attract the hunters to ourselves. I was meant to protect her but was leading her to her possible death.
“You wouldn't kill her!” Lev warned me. He was more affected by the mate bond, but that wasn't what I was after. I had better and fully grown women to satisfy my wants and s****l desires, better than a half-human and half-wolf girl.
“I need to pack.” Her shaky voice brought me out of my thoughts, and I told her it was unnecessary and that I would get her whatever she needed.
Ariana told me she had to pick something essential and rushed into their home only to return empty-handed. I didn't question her.
Throughout my stay at her house, I didn't get to see her father, but that didn't bother me. What I was concerned about was how Ariana and I would ride back to the hotel on my rented bike without her touching me.
Why the f**k did I rent a bike and not a car?
I kick-started the bike, and Ariana sat behind me. Immediately I jerked the bike forward, her hands wrapped around my stomach as she held on for protection.
“Don't touch me!” I stopped the bike suddenly as I barked at Ariana, causing her to lose balance. She fell off the bike and glared at me like it would affect me slightly.
“The rate at which you’re going, you would get her killed before you have the chance to get her pregnant.”
Lev stated the obvious. He was mad at me, but I couldn't control my fury when she touched the scar on my stomach. No one was allowed to feel that.
“No one but Alison?” Lev roared.
I Ignored him for the thousandth time that day, helped Ariana up, and guided her hand to a less sensitive part of my chest if only there were such a part. I had to clench my teeth throughout the drive, and I was more than relieved when we made it to the hotel.
My mixed attitude left Ariana wondering if I had bipolar disorder. We arrived at the suites, and I called on Alison to treat the minor cut Ariana sustained from the fall.
“I see you are back, Alp- Sir,” Alison said.
I rolled my eyes at her unnecessary question, whereas she could have used the mindlink instead of almost slipping my title in the presence of an outsider.
“Get the work done! You can lend her one of your clothes too.”
I said through the mindlink, and Alison guided Ariana away, leaving me to think about what I was about to do. Revealing the secret of the werewolves to a human was forbidden, but I was about to do just that. Even though Ariana was half-wolf, she was more human because her mother wasn't a strong wolf.
“She is on her way out, Alpha,” Alison informed through the mindlink, and Ariana appeared in the sitting area looking nervous, and I must say, she was prettier than I give her credit for.
What! Don't get me wrong. Her ginger hair was attractive.
I didn't wait for her to ask me. “Who are you,” this time, I provided her with the answer to her questions. She sat on the sofa opposite me, trying to create space between us.
“I'm Jace Slavo,” I announced, and if she had grown up among werewolves, she wouldn't be looking at me expectantly for more introduction. The realization of who I was would have set in.
“My introduction isn't complete if I don't show you my true self, but before that, you have to sign an agreement that you won't disclose any information I share with you tonight with anyone.”
I threw the contract document and a pen on the table. Ariana picked it up, read it, and signed it without saying anything.
“Are you ready?”
I didn't wait for her to respond as I shifted into my wolf form right in front of her. Lev was happy to be out, but when he saw the fear in Ariana’s eyes, he walked closer and tried to show her that he wouldn't hurt her, but Ariana flinched away from him. She was more than scared!
I shifted back into my human form as my mate fainted, slumping lifelessly to the cold floor.
