ARIANA VAUGHN
“Drag his body to the nearest hill, showcase it, and ensure the vultures find him. He doesn't get to have a peaceful exit.”
I was short of words as I listened to him. He was still cruel to the hunter even though he killed him coldly. His men, except for his Beta, Enzo, bowed to Alpha Jace, accepting to carry out his command.
“I'm glad that you are back, Alpha. We have a lot to discuss.” Beta Enzo said, walking alongside his Alpha, who had ordered the rest of us to make our way out of the grove.
I tried as much as possible to zone out and trap myself in my mind, but my ears kept picking up every damn word those two said to each other. I knew I wouldn't be killed. At least, not until I gave the Alpha his precious heir, but I was scared for my life.
Who would I ask about the nature, origin, and details of werewolves when everyone I have met is mean and unfriendly? But I needed to know.
“It's obvious that you are excited to see me, but I'm certain Alison would agree that we both need to rest.”
Alpha Jace responded to his Beta displeasure. My mind wandered to what would happen to me if I pissed any of them off. They might not kill me, but they could make me wish for death by torturing me.
It's official. I'm scared of these people. Are they even people? What I would give to change my life back to when my mom was around. It wasn't a perfect life, but my mom was there with me, so it was perfect because of her.
Although Alpha Jace didn't mention me when he said he needed to rest, I couldn't wait to get some rest, either. The fantasy creatures were exhausted, so it was normal for me to feel like dying. But they believed I was a half-brid.
I didn't know what that meant, but I would find out. I had no choice but to find out. We walked for about five minutes before I could see any sign of life. I didn't see Alpha Jace’s pack members yet, but I saw the structure of a house—a black place, to be precise.
It was a two-story building with walls painted in black but a sophisticated building better than my home, but still, it wasn't my home. The windows of the black house were shining as the sun reflected on them, and they were the only white or transparent things I had seen from the outside of the house.
“Home sweet home.” Alpha Jace muttered as we came close to the big black door of the black house. Home sweet home? It’s More like a blackhole, I must admit that the black house was welcoming, and I wasn’t bothered by the color of the walls. It was beautiful.
If I weren’t being mindful of my reaction because of my kidnappers’ presence, I would have taken my time to admire the beauty of the black walls, but I walked behind Alison as we entered the black house through the black door.
“Where are the servants? I expected them to welcome me into my home with the sweet scent of food.” Alpha Jace exclaimed while I was preoccupied with admiring the interior of the black house.
As expected, the interior was filled and decorated with black home decor. The decor was elegant but seemed traditional. The black sofas were placed side by side, creating an open square with a black glass table in the middle of the sofas. It was unlike the worn-out and battered chair that we had to manage back at my home.
The walls inside the black house were also painted black, and the shiny and transparent windows that would have let daylight into the house were sealed with thick black curtains. I felt out of place because this place screamed wealth, and I wasn't wealthy. Not a bit.
The tiled floor was shiny also, and the stairs were covered with a black rug. It was a miracle that I could see anything in this black and dark house.
“Forgive me, Alpha. I didn't know that you had returned. Welcome, Alpha.” My mind was taken off the beauty and darkness of the house when a middle-aged woman who appeared from nowhere spoke to Alpha Jace with her head bent.
She was wearing a uniform-like attire, so,
I assumed she was one of the servants Alpha Jace was asking after earlier. He must be stinky rich to have servants, but does he have to pay them? He was an Alpha, after all.
“Halle, no need to panic. Kindly prepare breakfast while I shower.”
Alpha Jace spoke nicely to the woman he just called Halle. I was stunned he could be that nice, but who was I to question an Alpha's attitude toward his people?
Halle shuffled back to wherever she came from through another black door. I wouldn't have known it was there if she hadn't opened it because the door blended with the wall.
“I'd like to take my leave now, Alpha Jace. The witch house is calling to me.” Alison informed her Alpha while I stood behind her with no direction. Beta Enzo was silent, but I sensed he was communicating with Alpha Jace somehow. Perhaps they could hear or read each other's minds too.
“Why not join me for breakfast? I'd like to reward you for finding my mate.”
Alpha Jace responded, staring at Alison as he awaited her answer. Alison was initially reluctant but had no choice but to accept Alpha's generous offer because Alpha Jace insisted. Beta Enzo was asked to stay for breakfast, too, but he stared at Alpha Jace for a while with clouded eyes before taking his leave.
They could communicate with their minds. That has to be it! The witch that helped find me was rewarded while I was treated like I wasn't there. I was tired of standing, and I wondered if anyone would be nice enough to show me to a room, or should I say, my room?
“Ariana, you and I have to talk, but after breakfast. Let me show you to the room prepared for you.”
What? Did he, Alpha Jace Slavo, speak nicely to me? My ears must be mishearing things. It took me seconds to gather my thoughts, but before I could dwell on the unbelievable gesture, Alpha Jace's attention was stolen from me.
I hate to admit this, but I wasn't okay with that. He finally talked to me without threatening me, and someone had to barge into his house. A pretty someone, to be specific, and he was happy to see her.
“Alpha Jaceeee!” The pretty brunette exclaimed cheerfully, ignoring Alison and me as she embraced Alpha Jace, my fated mate. I was not too fond of the idea that I was created for someone, but it wasn't so bad if someone as handsome as Alpha Jace was made for me.
Right?
“Hey, Rina! Darling!” My fated mate's face lightened up, and he beamed at Rina before hugging her right in my presence.
I want to go back to my home.
