A call popped up on my screen. I hit answer without thinking.
Lillian's voice came through the speaker, all snarky and sarcastic.
"Real cute, pulling a disappearing act. You have any idea how long Samuel's been worried about you?
"Did you even know his clinic's been having problems lately? You're so selfish."
I waited for the driver to show up, my voice flat. "What's that got to do with me?"
There was a beat of silence on the other end.
When she spoke again, there was a smile in her voice.
"You're actually pretty bothered by me and Samuel, aren't you? I get it. We've been best friends for ten years.
"Honestly, if there was anything going on between us, you never would've even been in the picture."
I pushed my suitcase toward the door. "You done?"
