Chapter Six: I thought going back to work would help me forget Lu Chen. I was wrong. The moment I entered the office that morning, I knew something was different. Everyone was staring at me. Some whispered. Others immediately looked away whenever I caught them watching. I walked to my desk and dropped my bag. "What happened?" My colleague, Mei Lin, leaned closer. "You haven't checked the news?" "What news?" She slowly turned her phone toward me. My blood ran cold. There was a picture of me. It had been taken the night before. Me standing in the rain with Lu Chen. The headline underneath it made my stomach twist. "MYSTERIOUS WOMAN SEEN WITH BILLIONAIRE CEO LU CHEN." I stared at the screen. "Who took this?" "I don't know." Before I could say anything else, my boss walked out of his office. "Shen Yue!" I immediately stood. "Sir?" "Inside. Now." I followed him into his office. He shut the door. "Do you know what you've done?" "I haven't done anything." "You've brought unnecessary attention to this company." He threw a newspaper onto the desk. Another picture of me was printed across the front page. "I didn't give anyone permission to take these pictures." "That doesn't matter!" His voice made me flinch. "You work here. Your personal problems are becoming our problem." "My personal problems?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "I didn't ask those reporters to follow me." "Then stay away from Lu Chen!" I froze. "How do you know about him?" My boss didn't answer. That was when I became suspicious. He already knew too much. I stepped closer. "Who told you about Lu Chen?" His expression changed. "Get back to work." "Sir—" "Now!" I left his office with my heart pounding. Something wasn't right. My boss knew about Lu Chen. The reporters knew about me. And somehow, all of it had happened at the same time. By lunchtime, things became worse. The moment I stepped outside the building, several reporters rushed toward me. "Shen Yue!" "Are you dating Lu Chen?" "How long have you known him?" "Are you secretly engaged?" "Did Lu Chen buy you that necklace?" Cameras flashed in my face. I covered my eyes. "Please, stop!" Someone grabbed my arm. I panicked. Then suddenly— A black car stopped beside us. The door opened. Lu Chen stepped out. The reporters immediately went silent. His expression was terrifying. "Move away from her." Nobody moved. He took one step forward. The air suddenly became heavy. I felt something strange pass through the crowd. The reporters stepped backward without understanding why. Lu Chen reached me. "Are you hurt?" I shook my head. "No." He looked at my arm where the reporter had grabbed me. His eyes darkened. "Who touched her?" Nobody answered. Lu Chen's voice became colder. "I asked a question." The reporter immediately stepped back. Lu Chen took off his coat and placed it around my shoulders. I looked up at him. "You came to save me." "I happened to be nearby." I almost smiled. "That's a terrible lie." His eyes met mine. For a moment, everything else disappeared. Then my phone rang. Unknown number. I answered. "Hello?" A distorted voice whispered: "Stay away from Lu Chen." My blood froze. "Who is this?" "You don't know what he is." The call ended. I slowly lowered my phone. Lu Chen noticed my expression. "What happened?" I didn't answer immediately. Then I looked at him. "Someone is behind this." "Behind what?" "The reporters." His expression changed. "What makes you think that?" "The questions." I swallowed. "They weren't asking normal questions. They already knew where I would be." Lu Chen became completely silent. Then he looked toward the reporters. His eyes narrowed. "You're right." "What?" "This isn't a coincidence." He looked at me. "Someone wants you connected to me." "Why?" "I don't know." He paused. "But whoever it is..." His voice dropped. "They know about the Moonfire." My heart stopped. Before I could ask what he meant, one of the reporters suddenly ran away. Lu Chen immediately turned. "Stay here." He chased after him. I watched them disappear around the corner. A few seconds later, Lu Chen returned alone. His expression was darker than before. "What happened?" He looked at me. "The reporter wasn't working alone." "Who was behind him?" Lu Chen didn't answer. Instead, he handed me a small piece of paper. There was only one sentence written on it. I know who the girl is. My hands began to shake. Lu Chen looked into my eyes. "Shen Yue..." "What?" "Someone has been searching for you for a very long time." I stared at the words. And suddenly, I understood. The reporters weren't looking for a scandal. They were looking for me. To be continued...
