I drove until I hit the airport and I parked my mom's car in the lot and texted Ken to come to pick it up tomorrow. I walked to the customer service desk and bought my ticket. Good thing my brother helped me out. I didn't have enough, with just my savings. I pay for my ticket and walk to the waiting area for my flight to be called. I finally sit down and everything crashes into me. My mom lying, my dad crying, Dean's bullshit about mates, and finally, Dean's rejection. I didn't accept it in front of him. I wanted to accept it in my own time, by myself, with just my ears alone. I can't even form the words to reject him right now, I'm just a whirlwind of emotions and I need release. I walked outside into the empty parking lot and screamed, Well howl in pain I guess. It's my 17th birthday and I haven't shifted yet. Maybe I should? It would help the pain I've heard. Shifting makes you stronger, physically and mentally. It helps me connect to my wolf and bond with her, making me strong and her in the process. I look at the time. My flight doesn't leave for another 7 hours. Great. I ran to the car and drove to a rest stop. It's empty, so I park the car by the benches. I get out and strip down, Can't shred my new pants and favorite shirt, I look around and run to the woods. I feel Artmeshia at full attention as I sprint down the hill.
OK, this is our first time shifting. Let's hope it doesn't hurt like hell. A, are you ready? I ask her.
Yes! I've been waiting for you to give me some freedom, she barks.
OK, come on, let's do it.
I force myself back into the depths of my mind and let Art take over. I feel my bones popping and adjusting. I expected to feel pain but I felt warmth. I feel myself giving over to Art and I look around. I looked down at my hands where now two massive black paws stood on the ground. I walked down to the river that runs through the hills of the rest and stopped to see myself. My eyes are red! Freaking RED! My fur is a smooth jet black with red streaming into it. I looked at myself with amazement. So it's true, my father is an alpha. Only alphas have black fur and are this large. Now I'm fat in my human skin as well as my wolf skin.
We are not fat, we are tall and all muscle sweetheart. Art says to me.
I'm huge! What do you mean?
Well, as a bloodline alpha, we have to be big. Children of Alphas are always bigger than their parents. So, if the alpha is big, then we must be bigger.
I guess my mom wasn't lying, huh?
No, Kat, she was not. I knew we were different.
OK, so Art, how fast do you think we can run? I smirk.
Wanna find out? She jumped with joy.
Let's go.
After a few hours of running, I take control back, shifting into my human form. My muscles burn from running and I feel so much better. I guess shifting is a natural remedy for emotional turmoil.
I got back into my clothes and drove to the airport. I didn't realize that my flight was 20 mins from take off. I ran to the terminal and got into my seat. As I feel the jets take off, I look out my window to see my home disappear in the clouds. I close my eyes and drift into darkness. What a birthday, huh?
