Chapter 9: The Truth “You were never human, Nyra.” For a second, I could still hear the words inside my head, but after that, my mind went blank. Completely blank. I stared at Kael sharply, waiting for him to say something else and for him to tell me this was another one of his twisted games. He didn’t. And somehow, that made everything worse. My throat tightened painfully as I took a slow step back from him. “No.” The creature behind him tilted its head slightly. “She remembers nothing,” it murmured quietly. Kael’s gaze darkened instantly. “Stop talking.” “No,” the creature replied calmly. “She deserves the truth.” I frowned sharply while looking between both of them. Honestly, I was getting tired of people talking around me like I wasn’t standing right there. “What truth?” Every where became quite and At this point, silence was starting to irritate me more than the answers. Kael finally exhaled slowly before looking at me again. “You lost your memories after you died.” I blinked slowly. Then laughed once under my breath. Not because it was funny. Because nothing else made sense anymore. “You keep saying that like it’s normal.” “I know.” “No, you don’t.” Another sharp pain suddenly hit my head instantly. This time harder. I grabbed the side of my head immediately as flashes exploded through my mind. Blood. Cold hands. A voice calling my name desperately. Then Kael. Holding me tightly. The memory disappeared as quickly as it came, but this time, I remembered the feeling that came with it. Pain. I looked at Kael sharply, breathing unevenly now. “What did you do to me?” His expression tightened slightly. “I tried to save you.” The creature laughed softly behind him. “And destroyed her instead.” Kael turned instantly. “Enough.” But the creature ignored him completely. “You loved him enough to abandon everything.” My heartbeat instantly stumbled. “What does that mean?” Kael’s voice came colder this time. “Stop talking.” The creature smiled faintly. “She chose him over her own kind.” For a second, the entire hall went silent. Even Kael froze slightly. I noticed immediately. And somehow, that reaction scared me more than the creature itself. I stared at Kael carefully. “What does that mean… my own kind?” Nobody answered immediately. That silence alone told me enough. The creature tilted its head slightly while watching me. “She really remembers nothing.” Kael finally looked at me again. Quietly this time. Almost carefully. “You weren’t supposed to find out like this.” I crossed my arms tightly. “Find out what exactly?” Another pause. Too long. Then— “You don’t belong with humans.” For a second, I genuinely thought I heard him wrong. I blinked slowly. “Excuse me?” The creature smiled wider now, like it had been waiting for that exact moment. Kael’s gaze stayed on me. “You were never human, Nyra.” My mind completely blanked again. Every thought. Every sound. Gone. I just stared at him, stunned by the reality slapping me directly in the face. The wolves. The golden eyes. The strange memories. The way the creature looked at me like it already knew me. The way Kael kept watching me like he’d been carrying some secret this entire time. My throat tightened painfully. “No,” I whispered immediately. The creature’s silver eyes narrowed slightly. “You always hated the truth at first.” I ignored it completely and kept staring at Kael. “What am I?” For the first time, Kael hesitated. Then finally, His voice came low and quiet. “A werewolf.”
