Chapter Four Pamela spent the next few weeks getting informed about Fallon Corporation. Thanks to her father, she was able to get a heads up on what had been going on in the company. He'd explained how decisions and innovations were made in the company and had also introduced her to a couple of investors in the company during the last shareholder's meeting which was held a few days before. He'd declared his intention to make Pamela the next CEO of the company to the shareholders and the board of directors, especially since he'd reached the age of retirement. They'd resulted in voting to reach a consensus. Owning about 70 per cent of the shares of the company, Mr Fallon, the founder of Fallon Corporation was able to get the majority on his side. Of course, there had been a few shareholders who had strongly refused the idea of having Pamela become the next CEO of Fallon Corporation because they saw having a female as Fallon Corporation's CEO - inappropriate. They however were left with no choice, as the majority voted in her favour. Pamela had to spend time in the company as a designated successor. She worked alongside her father, who made sure that she understood everything about Fallon Corporation perfectly. Pamela was appreciative of the fact that her father chose to be her adviser. She wondered what she would do without him. Her father had also introduced her to the board of directors whom she would be working with as the CEO of the company. She knew that many board members were unhappy with the fact that she emerged as the designated CEO as an heir apparent, especially since certain persons were coveting the position, even when he father was the CEO. She needed to prove her abilities and strength to everyone in the company. She needed to win their trust and loyalty. She wanted to show everyone that they didn't make a mistake by choosing her. Doing so would be quite difficult but she knew she could - she would - she had to. Pamela walked into her office, scanning it as she sat on her white executive chair. Very tiny round white lights illuminated the office. Behind her chair was a big black shelf which was stacked with a lot of books on business, finance, and leadership amongst others. What was on her left side was such a sight to behold. She could see the ocean blue sky and some beautiful tall buildings through the large transparent glass door of her office. A beautiful lamp and a telephone sat at the far right corner of the desk while a white flower vase with a green plant was on the far left side. A monitor-like silver-coloured laptop and a black case of writing materials stood pretty in the middle of the brown desk. The floor was also brown like sand, matching the colour of the desk. The desk was made of both brown and black colours. While the drawer had the latter colour, the other parts of the desk were brown. Another white executive chair was at the other side of the table, directly opposite where she sat. A black sofa which had a pillow on either side of its seat was at the far end of the room. She rose and walked towards the glass door which clicked open as she touched it, hoping to get a better view of the sky. The environment was so serene, just as she liked it. She closed her eyes and felt the cool breeze on her skin which caused her skin to tingle a little. A few moments later, she heard a knock on the door and invited the person in. It was her father. He took the seat in front of her, flashing her a grin. "How are you doing, princess?" He asked, his eyes glimmering. "Settling in, I guess." She answered, looking warily at him. "I'm pretty much just trying to adjust to the system." She added. "You seem very happy dad. Mind to share what's making you so elated?" She asked, switching to the daughter mode. "Is it so obvious?" He asked, grinning. "Of course, it is dad. It's written all over your face." She said, nodding her head at him. "Well, I guess I'm not so good at hiding my emotions, especially when they are extremely good." He said, rolling his brown eyes. "We just hit a jackpot, Pam. Now, this is a real one because it's a multimillion-dollar contract." "You must be kidding me," Pamela said, surprise evident in her voice as she gaped at her father. "Not when I'm maintaining my all business face, Pam." He said, fixing his gaze on her. "For a couple of months now, Fallon had been trying to partner with Dellag, a very big fashion company, worth trillions of dollars owned by Austin Garrison, an extremely rich billionaire. All our efforts to get this contract had been futile, we'd even lost millions trying to get this. But guess what? Dellag is considering our proposal. We just have to be able to convince Dellag that Fallon is the best fit for her. If things go as planned, we'd be able to secure a partnership with Dellag Corporation! Pam, do you have any idea of what this would mean for Fallon? Our investors would multiply by thousands of thousands if we could secure this partnership and just imagine how this would intensify our reputation." "I'm so short of words right now, dad. This would be a great achievement for Fallon Corporation." She said, her eyes widening. "Which is why I want you to handle this, Pam." Her father said. "Wait! What? Me?" She asked, her voice full of surprise. "Consider it a way to prove to everyone in the company that they didn't make a wrong choice with you. Consider it as a way to earn their trust. Do this to make them believe in your abilities and strength. You can do this, Pam. I know you can, and you will." Her father said, assuring her. Her father was right. She had to consider this a challenge. This was the perfect time to show everyone what she was capable of doing for Fallon. It was the right time to show everyone how much she cared about Fallon and how far she could go for her. "We've secured an appointment with the owner and CEO of Dellag, Austin Garrison. It's on Monday, in three days." Her father said. "I believe in you, Pamela. I trust you on this. Show everyone your ability." He said, squeezing her hands. After her father left her office, Pamela decided to look Dellag up. She shook her head as she saw the large number of competitors they had. Dellag was a big fish. She wouldn't let it slip her hands. She scrolled further and saw the man behind Dellag, Austin Garrison. A familiar face stared at her. She zoomed in on the picture, wondering where she'd met him. Pamela checked a few others pictures and her memory came back in a flash. Her eyes widened in surprise as she remembered how and where they'd met. She gaped in surprise, losing composure. Her body went limp and she felt heat emanate from it. Austin Garrison was the first person she saw immediately after she got back from Texas - the one she mistook for her driver - the man she'd insulted in anger - the man she'd made to carry her luggage. She was completely screwed, she thought, running her palm down her face.
