After taking our time in the waterfall discussing what we would ask Cedric and putting a game plan in place, we decided to head to the pack jail.
My nerves and emotions are all over the place as we walk through the field toward the jail; I have been in this pack for ten years. I have only been to the pack jail once. Back when I was in training, they showed the jail to all the new trainees to see if they would change their minds and see if they had a strong enough stomach for the job. It is dark and has a foul smell throughout the whole place. It wreaks blood, sweat, and decay. The cells are nothing but a tiny room about the size of a small closet with a bed that takes up most of the room on the far wall and a metal toilet with a small sink beside it with concrete all around. There are no windows in sight. The only way the natural light penetrates the building is through the door. There are some lights between the cells. Still, they are dim and don't do much, so we rely on our wolf's sight when we are there. I've only been there once, but it is a place that burns the memories in your brain forever. A place you cannot forget; it brings a slight smile to my face to know that Cedric is in one of the cells, hopefully suffering the way he made me suffer all those years. Well, I was in a prison of my own. He is getting what he deserves. Killian noticed the change in my emotion as we stepped towards the hard metal door. On either side, a guard stood to watch.
He gently squeezes my hand reassuringly.
"If you need to leave, just say the word, and we will, " Killian said, looking deeply into my eyes.
"I'm okay; let's get it over with, " I said, trying to feel confident, but I knew he could feel my nervousness and anxiety. Killian nodded at the guards who moved out of our way as the one on the left opened the door for us. Once the door was open, the smell hit me like a brick wall as I scrunched my nose. It was worse than I remembered. Slowly we descended. Once we reached the bottom, a guard was waiting for us down the stairs. The guard pointed to the farthest cell down the hall. "He's in the farthest cell, sir," the guard said in a deep, low tone. Killian nodded to the man, and we walked to the furthest cell.
As we got closer to my father's cell, the nervousness and anxiety started washing away; they were replaced with anger and hatred. I took a step in front of the cell, waiting for him to notice me, slowly looking around at his living conditions, 'filthy and disgusting just like him.' I thought this place was very fitting for a man like him. Then, as a slight smile reaches my lips, I look to the bed to see him. The man I thought was dead for ten years, the man who used to beat me and make me feel weak, is now sitting in a jail cell covered in filth and blood, just like he did to me.
"It is very fitting for you, Cedric; you now get to experience firsthand what it was like for me for all those years," I said, full of confidence. I would show him that I was stronger than him and would not show any signs of weakness, the first things I learned in my training. As he noticed me, he slowly turned with an evil grin, getting out of bed and walking towards the bars. I didn't move an inch to show him I was no longer afraid of him.
"Hello, daughter, I was wondering when you would come, " Cedric said with a grin and leaning on the bars "it seems Freya has raised you well, Skylyn," Cedric said, watching my every move.
"Keep her name out of your disgusting mouth, Cedric. Quit your games. I am here for answers, and you will give me what I want, or I will make sure you are six feet under this time," she said, stepping closer to the bars, confidence radiating off her. Cedric pretended to look pained at her words, placing his hand on his chest "is that how you speak to your father, young lady? That hurts a father's heart," Cedric said. Well, a grin crept into his face. In an instant, I snapped, grabbing his neck and slamming his head on the bars of his cell. "You are no father of mine, Cedric. You are a weak, worthless, vile man who only deserves death for the things you have done. You will never call me daughter again, or I will rip your neck out and enjoy every second of it, watching life leave your eyes. I am no longer the weak little pathetic girl you made me be. Well, you beat me as mother watched. I am here for answers and nothing more," I said, slamming his head against the bars, digging my claws into his neck just enough to make him bleed but not enough force to hurt him gravely, then throwing him to the cell floor with force as a crack of his bones rings through my ears. "first is mother dead and how did you survive, second why are you here and third why was I hidden and taken away from the pack" I said slightly surprising myself at my tone and dominance. I don't know what has come over me suddenly, but I do not fear this man anymore. Could it be the mate bond, or is it from the white light power I now possess? Looking down at Cedric, anger starts to fill me, and out of my peripheral vision, I can see the white light start to glow from my hands. Cedric chuckles nervously "are you sure those are the questions you want answerers to? Do you not want to know about the light that is filling your hands or who you are ...or who the man who stood in front of the car that day, " Cedric said, raising his eyebrows. I stopped in my tracks, taking a sharp inhale at his last words, 'or who was the man who stood in front of the car that day? What does he know about that man? His face haunts my nightmares, replaying that image repeatedly; how does he know him? I thought I was the only one that saw him, the man with the evil look in his eye. This dark guardian angel saved me that day, or was he trying to kill us all and, for some reason unknown, I survived? My brain ran a million miles a minute at his words, not knowing what to say "who is he." I said with a shaken voice that turned into anger. How could he break me? Killian gently placed his hand on my shoulder, bringing me back from my thoughts. I let the anger fill me. I straightened my back, composing myself, letting the white light completely engulf my hands. "child... He is your father and the reason you have that power. You think I'm evil. Just wait till you see him. That man. He was far worse than the devil himself. Though we don't know who your mother is, I bet she is just the same," he said with a wicked smile, laughing like a madman. I grabbed his neck. Letting the anger take over as my hand began to burn, but I was not afraid of the heat. It was calming to me. I squeezed his neck tighter. He tried to scream, but the only sound filling the room was his flesh burning from where my hand connected. The whole room became bright and filled with white light before I came to my senses and threw him on the ground, running out of the cell, not even looking back once to see if Killian was following me, just running as fast as I could, letting the tears stream down my face. I didn't know where I was running; I just let my feet take me wherever, as long as it was away from that man. As the tears dried, I stopped and noticed the calm scenery. I ended up running to the waterfall. Walking over to the water's edge, my legs gave out, and I landed on my knees, cupping my hands on my face; I didn't know what to do. My brain was all over the place at Cedric's words.
Who am I? Who is that man? Has my whole life been a lie?..... am I evil?
