A lot has happened over the past ten years since that day. First, Freya and Ian took me in, giving me a home and teaching me what true family is: as much as their son Killian disagreed. Then, slowly, I told them about my past and what I had suffered at my parent's hands over the years.
I learned about my family history and that my parents hid me. I am a werewolf; I have a whole pack that is my family. Luna Freya took me under her wing and taught me everything I needed to know about the world where I was supposed to be raised. I am from a long line of wolves; an old pack called the celestial moon. No one could figure out why my parents had chosen a life of seclusion and why she ran away while pregnant with me. I've been told the celestial moon was the most robust pack in all history. But now the pack can no longer be found as they disappeared with no word when I was around three years old.
"Skylyn?" It snapped me right from my thoughts as Freya called my name in a questioning voice. "Sorry," gathering my thoughts to the present, "I was asking if you are busy tomorrow, with your 18th birthday coming up. We need to get you a dress." I frowned, not wanting to think about my birthday "sorry, Luna. I have training all day tomorrow, but maybe the day after if that is okay." I have been postponing as much as I can. "Okay, we will do it the day after tomorrow then, but you're not getting out of it this time," Luna said with a slightly grinning smile. I looked around the table. The alpha is quietly enjoying his meal, not paying attention to the conversation, and Killian turns his head to look at me quickly before turning back to his food with no emotion showing on his face "may I please be excused? I have some training to do," I said as I gathered my dishes. "Yes, Sweetheart. Goodnight," Luna said with a big smile. "Goodnight, "I said as I walked away. I don't have any training tonight, but I needed to get out of that room. Luna Freya has been trying to get me to go dress shopping for two months now; I hate wearing dresses and shopping even more. I told her I didn't want to do anything for my birthday, but Luna was insistent.
Every year we have a small dinner, but this year, I am turning 18, which means I will be able to find my fated mate. Wolfs find their mate right after their birthday, but others can take years to find each other. I would prefer never to find mine. I have always been what people call a lone wolf, never getting close to anyone except one of my best friends, Ivy. I keep myself guarded and closed off, not wanting others to know about my past suffering. Only four people know of my past; Freya, Ian, Isabelle, and Killian. Everyone has kept it a secret; surprisingly, even Killian, as much as I thought he would say something, hasn't muttered a word about it. Thankfully, he doesn't pay attention to me much and only speaks to me when necessary. Still, I catch him looking at me when I am distracted every once in a while. I tried not to notice his stares at first, but I didn't mind it now, not showing him any reaction. He's probably looking at me in pity or anger because I came into their lives. Before I came along, it was just him as an only child that got everything he wanted until I came into the picture.
As I exited the pack house, I ran to clear my head. As I walked to the forest entrance, I was already starting to feel better. I feel safe and happiest in the forest, the smell of the trees calming me and the leaves rustling in the breeze. Then, in a split second, I shift and start running between the trees in my wolf form. I feel free as the breeze gently blows across my golden brown fur.
I don't know how long I have been running around. The sun started to go down as I returned to the forest entrance. The sky was filled with beautiful shades of orange and yellow. Suddenly, a tingle came to the back of my neck. A familiar Scent filling my nose filling me with warmth. Killian must have come for a run as well. Not too unusual for him.
I shift back, feeling my long hair dance across my back, gliding along my hips as I hurry to gather my clothes, not wanting to run into Killian. But because of how strong the smell in the air is, I could tell it was too late. It filled my body with a gentle fire, making me want to be wrapped in his arms. I turned around to see Killian not too far from me in his wolf form, a beautiful pitch-black wolf, his fur like the night sky and piercing blue eyes like the ocean on a still day. I feel my cheeks red as he shifts into his human form, still looking in my direction. I don't know how long I had been looking at him, maybe a few seconds, but it felt like hours had passed. I quickly turned back around in embarrassment as I scrambled to get my clothes back on when I saw him walking closer, not saying a word as he got close enough that one step would have me stumbling and falling into his arms. I turn around to see what he wants, and we are now facing each other, eyes staring at each other when I feel breathless. I quickly handed him a pair of shorts from the pile. I don't dare to look down like I usually do because he is naked right in front of me. I turned quickly, walking away. "Sorry," I whispered, but I knew he heard me.
I quickly scrambled to my room, closed my door, and flopped into bed, thinking about what had happened. No one has ever seen me naked. That's why I only run in the forest at night, but now that Killian has seen me, I don't know how to feel. He's always given me the cold shoulder, but just now, he looked at me and saw every bit of my body. I feel embarrassed but giddy and happy at the same time. Again, I don't know how to feel as I crawl under the covers and drift off. I hear the door creak open, but I pay not to mind it as I am too tired and quickly drift off to sleep.
