I had so much to figure out and process that my brain didn't stop after falling asleep that night. I would be reminded of my past, tossing and turning from nightmares all night.
FLASHBACK
"Daddy, please," I cried out,
my eyes full of tiers as I sank to the ground on my knees, begging,
"please, daddy, why can't I go outside? "I begged when I felt a
sudden pain on my cheek followed by a stinging heat as my head was thrown to
the side, cupping my face and looking at the ground, the tears drying in my
eyes as I was filled with anger. "YOU ARE NOTHING, NEVER SPEAK TO ME THAT
WAY AGAIN" my father yelled, full of anger; I turned to look out the
window suddenly as the once clear sunny sky turned into a sudden storm, the sky
becoming dark and absent of any light with thunder and lightning and the
heaviest rain as if it was sharing my emotions. I turn my head to look at him
again, but this time my eyes are full of anger and hatred for this man I call dad
as lightning and thunder crash in the background. He grabbed my arm, jerking me
up as I thrashed and screamed, dragging me to my room and throwing me inside
before laying one last blow to my face; cupping my face, I felt the warm blood
filling my hand; I didn't move, crouched there on the ground unmoving Well
trying to process what just happened at the hands of my father.
"You're f*****g worthless. No one
will ever love you; you are weak and pathetic. I wish you had never fucking
been born. Child, you disgust me," he yells before slamming the door and
locking it, trapping me inside the jail cell one calls a bedroom. Slowly I got
up and lay on my bed, staring out the bars of my window as I cried myself to
the point that there were no more tiers to cry. Trying to think of ways to
escape this hell, but no matter how hard I try, he always finds me dragging me
back; my stomach rumbles, a pain shooting through my stomach reminding me that
I haven't eaten today, but I won't eat till maybe tomorrow if my mother can
sneak me food again without him noticing.
END OF FLASHBACK
I
burst up in bed covered in sweat, breathing heavily, trying to catch my breath,
grabbing the sheets tightly in my hand; suddenly, Killian's arms wrapped around
me, startling me at first. Slowly, I turn around, burying my head on his chest,
letting the tears fall as he wraps his arms around me in a tighter embrace to
let me know everything is going to be okay. As I sob in his chest, Killian
slowly rubs my back. "everything is okay; I'm right here; he can't hurt
you, not now, not ever." he whispers in a soft tone, kissing me on the
head. I don't know how long we stayed like that before my tears dried and I
fell asleep in his arms.
When
I woke again, the sun had shone brightly, and I was still in Killian's embrace.
I looked over to see he was still peacefully asleep. Not wanting to wake him, I
slid out of bed, got dressed, and left the room, closing the door slowly to
ensure I didn't make a sound. After last night, he must be tired, and I want to
let him sleep as long as possible.
I
headed to the kitchen, following the smell of breakfast, stepping through the
door to see Freya cooking bacon and french toast. A smile came to my face
seeing how Freya was so happy this morning that she was singing the song on the
radio and dancing as if no one was watching, giggling slightly at how funny her
dance moves were. I decided to join her.
As
I started to sing out loud, dancing my way to where she was by the stove, I
started to help prepare breakfast before the boys woke up well, dancing and
singing along. We both laughed at how hilarious we looked, singing at the top
of our lungs. The whole pack could probably hear us. We placed the plates on
the kitchen table, singing as loud as we could and dancing around; we bumped
into each other and broke out in laughter which had us both in tears.
"Morning,
ladies," both Killian and Ian said in unison. We looked into the doorway,
still in a fit of laughter, to see the boys standing in the doorway, each
leaning on one side of the frame. "seems like we are missing out on all
the fun, " Kilian said, laughing at how funny we probably looked.
"How
long have you boys been standing there? Come eat," Freya said as we
gathered and finished putting breakfast on the kitchen table. "We didn't
want to disturb you ladies and break up the fun, " Ian said, taking a seat
at the table and grabbing a plate of food. So we all sat down and had a lovely
breakfast full of laughter and the odd joke here and there from the boys about
us ladies dancing and singing.
After
cleaning up from breakfast, Killian and I decided to go to the waterfall as we
usually did every day.
The
sky was clear with not a single cloud in sight, the birds singing their morning
song as a gentle breeze blew through the air, blowing my hair gently to the
side as we walked through the field hand in hand. We sat in the grass when we
got to the waterfall, our feet dangling in the warm water. My thoughts are
brought back to the memories I had last night in my sleep; looking up at
Killian, I can see that he knows what I'm thinking. "how are you
feeling?" Kilian asked with concern in his voice.
"did
you see my dream?" I asked, looking down, playing with the water, sightly
splashing it nervously.
"sky,
I can feel what you feel and see your memories as if they were my own through
the mate bond. So if you want to talk about your past, I am always here to
listen," he said gently, calmingly.
"I
was six when that happened. It got worse over time; I never understood why my
parents treated me that way, but whatever I felt inside appeared to be mirrored
in the weather and sky. After the night of my birthday, I'm guessing it has
something to do with this," I say as I hold my hand up, letting a ball of
white light form in my palm, looking at the light. I continued.
"I
always thought I did something wrong, but I could never figure out what I had
done so horrible to make my parents treat me the way they did; as early as I
can remember, they treated me that way. It started as verbal abuse, then as I
got older. It became more physical and only got worse the older I got. The day
of the accident was the first time I was allowed out of the house. They said
they had somewhere important to go to and that I had to go. I jumped because I
could finally see the outside world and leave my prison. Even if it was only
for a little, my parents were on their way to meet Ian and Freya when suddenly
a man came out of nowhere in the middle of the road. He had an evil look in his
eye, then suddenly, as soon as he appeared, he disappeared, but not before my
father ran off the road, flipping the car and sending us into that ditch. I was
sad but hopeful that day because, as much as it saddened me that my parents
were gone, I felt a sense of hope that I could escape that life and my parent's
evil grasp. That evil man, whoever he was, was like a dark guardian angel
saving me from that life and setting me free. Once Freya found me, I felt a
sense of security in her and felt like that past was behind me and that they
could never hurt me because they were dead. I pushed it all down. I put it all
behind me, thinking I would never have to think about it again other than the
nightly recurring nightmares. I became secluded, afraid to get close to anyone,
and afraid that anyone who loved me would do the same, so I dedicated myself to
training and working as a worrier of the pack to save any innocent child. Who
was suffering the same as I once did, healing the broken Well simultaneously,
mine was still shattered into a thousand pieces." I said, still looking at
the light ball in my hand, throwing it into the water as it skipped like a rock
before it disappeared. Killian squeezed my hand as if reassuring me that
everything was going to be okay.
"He
will never hurt you again. Sky, I won't let anything happen. I will kill him
with my bare hands if I have to, just to say the word, and I will make sure he
is gone for good." he said with strength and determination.
"I
need to see him and get answers; then you are free to do as you please once I
have all that I can get from him, "I said with confidence. I will no
longer let this man pull me down and hurt me. This time the tables are turned.
He is the weak one. I am no longer that little girl who is afraid. I am a
worrier and the top worrier of the lunar eclipse pack. I am stronger than he
will ever be, and I am surrounded by many people who genuinely love me.
