I felt someone gently tapping my shoulder, I opened my eyes yawning. The bus entered a depot. I noticed I slept on his shoulders holding his arm tightly and our fingers intertwined. I slowly removed my hands from him embarrassed.
"We reached?" I asked him.
He just nodded his head looking intently at his mobile. I shrugged my shoulders and followed him getting down from the bus. We came out of the depot. I looked around searching for stores where we can get SIM.
I tugged his shirt, but he was still looking at his phone.
"What's wrong?"I asked him.
He shook his head and took a deep breath.
"Hungry? Can we get our lunch?" he asked totally ignoring my question.
"Sim." I replied flatly.
He nodded. We entered a shop nearby and got two SIM and activated it.
"But why are YOU getting a new SIM?" I asked him confused.
"To give my number to you, in case if we lose each other during this journey."
We exchange our numbers and walked towards a restaurant.
"What do you want to eat?" He asked me.
"Some delicious" I laughed. "Your choice"
"Hmm. So, How about chewmin with beef steak?"
"Sounds good."
The dishes we ordered were served and we ate in peace.
"Do you have any particular hobby?" I asked him.
" Not really." He stopped for a while and said, "Other than crying and being wild do you have any hobbies?" He asked as he laughed out.
"What the hell? You just saw me at my lowest . I don't cry often." I said as I pouted looking other way.
"You should."
"Huh?" I asked not knowing what he meant.
"You should cry more often. Crying doesn't mean you are being weak. You heart needs peace. So when you can't take it anymore just cry. You'll feel light." He replied looking through my eyes.
" Seems like you cry more often." I laughed .
" I don't. I'm always happy." He said showing his cute smile.
I felt happy for him. It felt nice having normal conversation with someone which I wished for a long time.
We payed for the bill and came out.
"It's really a good whether." I smiled.
We walked towards the aquarium.
"You know the place?" I asked him.
"Google will tell us." He said looking at his phone.
"We can't rely google all the time."
"Go straight for 100 meter and take a left turn.”
I signed and followed him. We kept walking and walking. I looked around the streets. It doesn't feel good.
"I think we are lost."
"No crybaby. just little more we will reach the main road."
Suddenly we heard a big scream. We rushed towards the spot hiding ourselves behind a wall and peeked at the streets to see what is happening.
“Please just give us more time. I'll definitely pay you back. Don't take my daughter for this." A middle aged woman was holding the man's legs.
"We ourselves don't want to do this but it is Boss's order. It's your husband who sold your daughter for the debt he owns." That man said.
That woman looked at the person who was shamelessly standing near her.
My blood boiled on seeing this. I stepped out but Kai held my hand and pushed me behind him.
"what are you doing? We must stop them." I whispered.
"Keep quiet."
The man pushed that woman away and pushed their daughter forcefully into the car. I yanked my hands from Kai and started walking towards them.
"Yah! What are you doing. come back" he whispered trying to hold me.
I ignored him and started walking towards the people. Meanwhile the daughter managed to escape from his hold and came running towards me. With the force she was running she tripped and fell down between us. I rushed towards her side.
" Please help me. I don't want to go there. Please. please."
I saw her pleading eyes, Before I could react the man came and grabbed her.
"What are you doing? Stop. let her go." I tried to hold her but he was fast. He dragged her back to the car. I went running towards them.
I stopped on my tracks. Not believing what I just saw. Her pleads were echoing in my ears.
I heard footsteps behind me. I looked at Kai with tears in my eyes. I hugged him tightly.
"Hey! You ok, are you hurt?" he asked hugging me back.
"I want to save her." I said. "We need to save her somehow." I panicked. I broke the hug and went towards her father.
"You bastard" I punched him hard on his face. "How could even do this, selling your own daughter for your debt. Where are they taking her. What are they gonna do with her." I yelled at him.
He smirked at me as he said,
"They are probably taking her to the red light area. They own one. They'll make her work there and you know what, we get monthly payments too for her job. isn't it great?" He started to laugh wickedly. This time I punched him hard in his face. Blood came out of his nose and mouth.
"Give me the address. Give me the damn address where they are taking her." I yelled.
"You can't do anything. Once captured by them. then there is no return." He replied not giving a damn.
"We'll see that too" I went towards her mother.
“Aunty, if you know their address kindly tell us.”
Aunty rushed inside their house and brought a piece of paper. She handed over it to me. It was the address of the bar they own.
"I trust you, please save my daughter."
I held Kai's hand and pulled him.
We sat at a coffee shop table not knowing what to do.
"Have you not heard about s*x trafficking. The scene you just witnessed is one of them.It happens here all day And he is right I have heard about this gang often 'Once captured by them, then there is no return. Stop concerning yourself over this. Let's get going towards our destination." Kai said with a worried face.
I shook my head.
"I'm sorry to say this but I'm not leaving anywhere with anyone without saving that girl" I said in a firm voice.
He sighed.
"I do get your intentions, but be practical. They are one of the well know gangs with all political connections and they carry weapons with them always. Do you even think you can get near them.?" He raised his voice. "You will be done by then. So stop this. Get over. Want to get yourself killed?" He raised his voice a little.
"Stop this? Get over? Do you think I'll be able to sleep well after what happened today. Each and every night her pleads will haunt me."
"I would rather die try saving her than to die every day out of guilt. I'm not forcing anybody to help me. You can continue your journey from here. I'll not be a bother anymore but I'm not leaving this place without saving that child." I looked into his eyes.
Kai took a deep breath.
"And you think I can leave you here alone fighting with gangsters.?” he asked angrily.
I turned away, tears slowly filling my eyes. somehow his rejection to help me hurt a lot, at least I thought he would be on my side. The girls plead echoed my ears.
"I can take care of myself." my voice finally came out.
"So, you are on an intention not to listen to me right?" he asked angrily. "Ok lets make an deal. we'll go there and we will search for her. But if we feel that we have been spotted or being doubted we drop this search immediately and return back, ok?" He asked hoping I would agree.
I looked at him shocked, I shook my head fast. He looked at me unbelievably. I could see anger filling his eyes.
"You'll only return after saving her?" He asked softly.
I lowered my head.
"And what if something bad happens to you in the middle of this, do you think I would be able to live peacefully in my life?" His voice lowered.
"Hey, look at me." He pulled up my chin forcing me to look into his eyes."They are not going to kill he they will make her work there. At least she will be alive. And you going there with the intentions of saving her. there is no guarantee that you will ever return alive. And I can't afford to lose you. Please try to understand." He asked literally begging.
"We'll search for her, I'm not saying no but if we feel we are being doubted we leave immediately ok?" He asked in a most tender voice ever.
I slowly nodded.
"Ok, what's your plan?" He asked.
