Ria
The Night Wolf I was mending now couldn’t have been more than fifteen years old. He shouldn’t have been in this much pain and unable to control his wolf. This was Night Wolf number thirty today. The symptoms were identical to an addict detoxing, with drugs obviously not in his system, magic definitely played a heavy part.
My hands began to heat up, urging me to do what was right. I couldn’t let any of my colleagues see what I was about to do. I placed my right hand in the middle of the boy's chest. His movements immediately ceased, as he and his wolf both calmed down. Taking a look at my surroundings, I breathed a sigh of relief. My section was oddly calm tonight. We were the only two here, with the exception of the receptionist who was too far away to notice anything.
“Can you understand me?” I asked in a cool and calm voice. Right now, he and his wolf were feeding on my emotions. One wrong move and things could get deadly real quick.
“Yes,” the boy spoke in a whisper. His emotions also filtered into me and all I could feel was fear. Then desperation followed. The will to fight and be free was foremost in his eyes. What kind of magic was this?
“ Can you tell me your name?” I asked.
“E- Ev-Evan,” the boy stuttered. A thick black inky colored substance trickled down from the corner of his mouth as he struggled to speak. Surprise also flashed in his eyes as it had been several minutes passed, but the pain had not come back as it had before.
The other wolves that I treated before him were older. This was exactly why his reaction to my healing touch was different. It also proved my other suspicions. This wasn’t just magic, but also poison. More specifically, a blood poison. Which was forbidden here in the Dark Woods. It explained the detox effects. The scent of it was very telling and I, of course, loved a good mystery.
“It is nice to meet you Evan, I’m Dr. Ria and you will be just fine under my care.” Smiling with sincerity, I quickly took samples of the thick black inky substance. I hid the two tube samples inside the hidden pocket inside my lab coat.
Evan smiled at me, his eyes full of trust as he slowly dosed off to sleep. My best friend, Bo, had swiftly set up the drip needed for him. She was the only person I trusted in this place. Since the day of the Night Wolves' sudden rabid behavior, something within both of us has been unleashed as well.
“All set, and ready to go. love.” Bo said. She did the rest of the steps. up for me then, Then pulled the curtains to cover me. I had to release a small amount of blood inside the drip bag that Bo and I had specially made for the Night Wolves. This was the final method to cure each wolf affected. Evan was part of the last batch of Night Wolves that returned after being missing for years.
The first week of the outbreak, an incident led me to discover that my blood along with my healing abilities could cure the Wolves. Luckily, Bo was with me that night and together we worked the graveyard shift near the borders inside our secret base to find the right mix. Evan was the last Wolf left to be cured and the premade special drip bags with my blood had run out, so for him I had to do this on demand.
According to my sources, my family had requested hunters. They knew that the Night wolves had been cured, but they still sent for the huntsman and his hunters. My alarm bells were ringing but I couldn’t do anything at the moment. The Night Wolves were the natural leaders of the Dark Woods and Sapience kingdom. My family was just plain embarrassed, not wanting to step down gracefully.
There was an impromptu emergency meeting at the base tonight. Bo’s father was the first Night Wolf I had successfully cured. An incident between us led to the discovery that I was able to do what I could for them now. He was also King Daxon’s second in command. The amount of information he held, now that he was in his right mind, would be paramount to what happens next in the Sapience Kingdom.
I knew my family was involved somehow, the request for hunters was unreasonable. Even though they had yet to find out the Night Wolves had been cured. Bo’s dad, Dillon, had specifically requested we keep closed-mouthed about it. Did my family want a war?
It was said the First Kingdom Ambassadors would be present. Five of The Seven who helped to keep order within the Dark Woods and the Forbidden Forest were chosen to be Ambassadors. Queen Talia had already brought forth hope in our people here with this choice. The questions I had would only get answered at tonight's meeting. We had to be on guard from this moment on with the hunters now in the mix.
