Chapter 1
Falling out.
Jason's POV
I stared out through the glass as the car drove slowly to school. My heartbeat kept rising and dropping.
Massages kept pouring in from my friends asking how far I was from the school.
I switched off the phone not wanting them to continue spoiling my mood.
It was bad enough that morning that Travis sent a confusing message regarding our band The Ice Cube.
I was getting impatient sitting at the back seat while the driver took forever to arrive at the school campus.
On a normal day, Mountain High was only about forty to forty-five minutes drive away from home.
But it seemed I have been sitting for close to two hours and reaching there was not possible.
Me: Dude why is it taking you forever to get me to school?
I asked the driver impatiently. Something needed my attention urgently and I was eager to find out what.
Driver: I am very sorry for driving slowly today Young Master Jason, we are almost there.
I lead out a quiet sigh and leaned over the back seat.
The driver took a final turn and Mountain High was finally in sight.
He stopped the car and I didn't wait for him to get the door for me.
I stepped out of the car and my friends Dell and CJ walked to me.
They had been waiting outside by their cars for close to an hour.
I raised my head looking around for Travis but there was no sign of him around.
It was our tradition for the Ice Cube to always make an entrance into school together.
It doesn't matter who got to school first or last but once you are there, you have to wait for the other members so we go in as one.
For Travis not to be there after sending a vague message last night meant he was either not yet in school or he wasn't going to show up at all.
CJ: Good thing you are finally here Jas, did you get Travis's message last night?
Me: I got it CJ, why isn't he here at this time? Let me give him a call and find out what's taking him so long.
I switched my phone back on and was about to dial Travis's number when Dell slowly pushed down my hand indicating that I should stop.
Dell: There is no point in calling him Jason. Travis's driver was here a while ago and as we speak, Travis is inside the school.
I turned surprised by what I heard.
Me: You mean to tell me that Travis is already in class?
I asked with my eyes fixed on Dell.
CJ: Yes, that's why we have been sending you countless messages.
My heart suddenly began hammering. That was a disrespect to our band.
Why would he walk into the school building without the band?
Me: What is happening with Travis? Why did he disrespect this band in such a manner? His reasons should be valid otherwise he would not like me.
I led the way and we all walked into the school building.
As soon as we stepped into the corridor, everywhere went silent and all eyes turned on us.
I could comfortably say everyone's heart pulsed for a second or so just looking at us.
It's not actually our fault that we were born handsome in famous homes.
Girls gathered around trying to get our attention.
Sidney: Awwwe, it's the Ice Cube boys.
Calister: Master CJ, hello, Master Dell.
Carson: Cool.
It was a normal thing for us. They are our fans so we get why they admired us so much.
But today instead of smiling at them, we walked pass them into our classroom and Travis was already seated holding a book. I asked everyone who was there to leave.
They all ran out and whispered to themselves.
Sandra: What's wrong with Ice Cube boys today?
We moved to Travis's seat and stood over his table. He dropped the book he was holding quietly.
Me: What's the meaning of what you did Travis?
Travis raised his head up, folded his arms and leaned on the desk behind him.
Travis: Didn't you get my message? Wasn't it clear or can't you all understand anymore?
I exchanged glance with Dell and CJ who were as confused as I was.
Me: You sent a vague message, which only said "I'm out" how do you expect us to understand that?
Dell: And to crown it all up, you walked into the school building without us, breaking a rule we created when we formed this band.
Travis: I didn't break any rules. And since you didn't understand the message, I will tell you now. I'm done with this band, I no longer want to be a part of this shenanigans anymore.
CJ: You are joking right?
Travis: You all know I don't joke around. I'm done.
Me: Why? You can't just wake up one morning and decide that. We need to know why.
Travis: I can decide to leave at anytime without giving any reason.
Me: It doesn't work that way Travis, you have to give us a valid reason.
Travis stood up from his seat and turned to leave the classroom, I held him back. He turned around and pushed my hand from his arm.
Travis: Ever since we created this band we have done nothing but bully people. We act like demi-gods and judge others whereas we are not perfect ourselves. I am done Jason. I don't want to be a part of this nonsense anymore.
Me: If you keep up with this nonsense Travis, I will put you in my black book and I swear, you will run out of this school not knowing where you are.
Travis: Is that a threat?
I raised my hand and wiped his school shirt on his shoulders.
Me: It is not a threat Travis, it's a promise.
Travis pushed my hand away and leaned in front of me and whispered in my ears.
Travis: Bring it on, Jason Akwesey Narike'.
