Laura's POV:
“She is opening her eyes. Hey, Laura…Laura, wake up” came the breathy voice as I tried to keep my eyes open.
“Are you feeling okay?’’ continued the voice, laced with concern as I was finally able to keep my eyes open.’’
“Hmm..mm’’ I breathed as I tried to make out my environment.
“Thank The Goddess you are okay Laura.’’ The Beta declared as he signed.
As I recalled the event that had occurred earlier, my eyes quickly shifted to the man who held me.
My head rested on his hard chest as I listened to his heart race, my wolf content being this close to its mate.
“Yes, I am fine. Where is this place?’’ I finally replied.
“Oh, I brought you upstairs, to my room when you fainted earlier,’’ Maxwell responded.
Intently, my wolf leaned forward and curled at the voice of its mate, reminding me again of this new revelation.
“How is this even possible?’’ I argued as I quickly adjusted myself, lifting my head from his chest.
“What's possible?” He questioned, glancing at me.
“You are my mate, Maxwell, my wolf wanted you as soon as you walked in on your father and me having a conversation.” I proclaimed before I could stop myself.
“Well, I leave you guys to talk.’’ Beta Julian informed before he walked out of Maxwell's room.
“About that, I know,’’ Maxwell responded, avoiding my eyes, as he massaged the bridge of his nose.
“What?’’ I inquired, blinking, taken back by the sudden response, he sounded so sure.” What does he mean by that?” I thought to myself.
“I have known since your 18th birthday L’’. He explained, as his ocean blue eyes, which held so much warmth saddened.
I suddenly remembered when he used to call me L when we were just cubs. He said only he knew what the initial L meant even though I had only thought that he got it from my name, Laura.
“How in the name of the goodess, did I not know it too?’’ I questioned, my eyes brows furrowed, my eyes darting back and forth.
My face hardened as I suddenly remembered the mate-suppressing portion, and then it all made sense.
They just had to punish my wolf and keep me from ever finding my mate as well for whatever reason they had, but why did he keep that important piece of information to himself, or did he not want me? I wondered as my eyes watered at the thought of their betrayal.
“You have known all this while?’’ I sobbed, my heart clenched at the possibility of my mate not wanting me.
I heard his heart racing, as he suddenly stood up from the bed and ran his hand through his hair.
“Why did you not tell me or did you not want me?’’ I accused him as the tears that clouded my eyes finally spilled.
“What? Why would you even say that L?’’ He exclaimed rushing to my side, as he helped my hands.
“Why wouldn't I want you L? He questioned as he ran his hand softly on my cheek, and I felt warmth.
I just couldn't tell you’’. He admitted.
“Why?’’ I further questioned, barely whispering.
He bowed his head, before looking at my eyes again, those blue eyes holding so many unexplained emotions, while he still held my hands.
“What did you want me to say L?, I have loved you since we were cubs Laura, but clearly you saw me as nothing more than a playmate and a Friend, but our friendship ended as soon as you met Sonia when you turned 12.’’ He explained emotionally.
My wolf leaped for joy again, knowing our mate had always loved us, but my heart clenched at the sadness in his voice.
“Seeing you at your eighteenth birthday, you in that amazing yellow dress, looking so beautiful,” he continued, his eyes filled holding so much admiration as he spoke.
“My wolf jumped at the sight of our mate. You can't imagine how grateful I was to the moon goddess for making the only woman who I have always loved and held my heart, my mate L’’ He furthered confirmed the joy his eyes held.
“But my world came crashing when you looked at me and didn't recognize us. Your eyes didn't hold any hint of want for us Laura, I thought you didn't want me, I probably wasn't what you expect your mate to be.’’ He explained, his voice breaking.
Wanting to hold it's mate, my wolf whined. I reached out to him and hugged him.
“I am so sorry Maxwell.’’ I apologized as my voice came as barely a whisper, the feeling of my mate's body on mine sent chills down to my spin. My wolf yearned for its mare, wanting to pull him closer at that moment.
His body tensed at the contact of our skin. I think I heard him growl, as he hesitated to return the hug until after a few moments, probably surprised at my action.
The feeling of my body against Maxwell's gave me a sense of peace I haven't felt since after my parents death.
“I am sorry you had to go through that alone Maxwell, I know it must have been hard seeing me and staying away from me.’’ I pointed out.
“But, I am here now and I am not going anywhere,’’ I announced, as we detangled from the hug.
His eyes lingered on me for a little while as he stared at my lips, his ocean-blue eyes darkening a shade. My heart was pounding so fast in my chest, as he leaned in.
I have always wondered how it would be being with my mate, having heard about how special and intense the mate bond can be, I could finally understand as every part of my body wanted to kiss him, hold him, and never let him go.
I instinctively leaned in as well, waiting for the feel of my mate's lip on mine but it never
came.
“We shouldn't L, at least not yet.’’ came Maxwell's hoarse voice, bringing me out of my thoughts
