As I searched the woods with a fearful mind, I prayed silently for forgiveness. The Moon Goddess must be trying to punish me for all my wicked deeds. Because of me, Laura is missing and most likely in danger. I should never have walked into their house. If anything happens to her, Maxwell would certainly never forgive me.
I made sure I left no stone unturned while searching, but there were no traces of her. I was about to give up and meet Max at the fountain when I saw a scarf on the floor that belonged to her—she was in trouble. I picked it up and ran to meet my cousin.
I saw the look on his face as I walked to him alone: disappointment, annoyance, and frustration. As soon as he saw the scarf in my hands, it changed to fury and boiling anger.
