She was still restless on Monday, and finally Tuesday morning she suddenly said we ought to go home. But that doesn’t mean anything. She’s always been moody like that.” “I didn’t say it meant anything,” I said. “How long have you known Pamela?” “Oh, years and years. At least ten years.” “Her marriage to Cantwell was unhappy for a long time, wasn’t it?” “Yes. He was a bastard.” “I’m sure of it. How come she never took a lover when it was no good? Or did she?”
